HMECU is a medium size credit union with approximately 10,000 members and $240 million in assets has been serving our healthcare, municipal, fire and police community for 85 years! We take pride in the service we provide to our members and are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate candidate to join our leadership team.

We are looking for a qualified Vice President of Credit Services. This is an exciting and dynamic position that has ultimate responsibility for the full commercial and retail lending portfolios as well as our future business development team.

The person in this position will be able to rise to the challenge of developing the role into the strategic support necessary for HMECU’s sustainable future growth. Through being part of the leadership team that develops the business strategies, this role is an important and vital role in the continued success of HealthCare and Municipal Employees’ Credit Union


· 10+ years of experience within leadership roles in a credit union and / or financial services company.

· Bachelor’s Degree (Advanced Degree preferred) in a business or quantitative field, or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

· 3-5 years experience in commercial credit.

· Commercial Credit designation an asset.

· Must be bondable.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drives the strategic direction for all retail and commercial credit including business development.  
  • Develop, implement, and maintain sound lending and investment practices, policies and procedures and ensuring compliance with regulator and risk appetite/tolerance of HMECU.
  • Initiates action to improve growth and development of the credit unions loan portfolio by pursuing new business and establishing and maintaining liaison with business and community contacts.
  • Ensures all lending and credit activities comply with sound business practices, legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Identifies risk issues and ensures processes are in place to effectively identify and manage risk and delinquent accounts.
  • Coach and lead the credit staff through regular coaching and training; responsible for any communications and setting of limits for credit staff.
  • Chairs the Management Credit Committee and a member of Asset Liability Committee and Enterprise Risk Management Committee.
  • Experience with process management and the ability
  • Completes management and board reporting as required and responsible for HMECU credit compliance reporting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Analytical and logical thinker with a strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer credit and lending practices.
  • Full capacity in assessing and reading Equifax, TransUnion, and Bureau reports.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail in both written and financial work.
  • Exceptional team player with emphasis on cooperative learning and execution.
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
