The Opportunity

CVCU is looking for an experienced financial services leader to take on the new position of Branch Manager. Reporting to the General Manager, this multi-faceted leadership role will be a key player in the credit union management team, contributing to our success in achieving organizational goals.  The Branch Manager leads our Member Services and Sales function, and Operations and Deposit Administration.  Key goals for this role are to ensure delivery of relationship-based services, to maximize growth in deposit services, investments and membership, to help our members achieve and maintain their financial health, and to ensure efficient operations.

Additionally, the Branch Manager takes an active role in labour relations management for our unionized organization, liaising with union representatives at various levels, participating in the Labour Management Committee, and providing guidance to peers in handling employee relations issues, contract interpretation, and managing grievances.

Some of the specific accountabilities of this role include:

  • Setting and monitoring member services targets, and providing input into rates, promotions, and marketing plans to support goals
  • Maintaining a positive and credible presence and profile for the credit union with members and within the community
  • Leading exemplary service standards through personal example and coaching and development of staff
  • Developing and implementing policies, procedures and processes, and training staff to ensure consistency of delivery and compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Leadership of the Member Services team, and providing proactive change leadership to support employees through the disruptive changes facing our industry
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness for the credit union through streamlining, eliminating and automating processes
  • Supporting change initiatives and projects, including new systems and new products and services
  • Resolving unique and complex member inquiries and problems through analysis of the issue, development of potential solution options, and impact evaluation
  • Providing high quality reporting, correspondence, and policy and procedure documentation
  • Demonstrating a deep understanding of employee relations and respect for the collective agreement and collective bargaining processes 

Qualification and Skill Requirements:

We’re looking for someone with a post-secondary degree in business administration or a related discipline, and a track record of success in financial sales and service leadership.  Previous branch manager experience in a unionized workplace with a solid background in employee and labour relations is required.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

To be our ideal candidate, you will also have:

  • A strong understanding of Canadian credit union industry trends 
  • A demonstrated ability to lead staff and create a motivating and engaging work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with staff, members and suppliers in an effective and diplomatic manner
  • The ability to analyze and evaluate information from multiple sources and find solutions to complex problems
  • Strong initiative and member service orientation
  • Experience and proficiency in computer applications, including banking systems and the Office suite
  • Knowledge of Canada's Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Regulatory Environment such as, Financial Transactions Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) and the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA)
