An Assistant Controller at Spruce Credit Union is responsible for the following tasks and attributes:

· Strong analytical, technological, communication and organizational skills.

  • Established ability to use accounting software to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to coordinate and prepares reports for Senior Manager of Finance and Administration and management.
  • Skill in preparing financial statements to summarize and report the company’s financial status.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls. 
  • Assist in managing all aspects of the general ledger. 
  • Possess a strong understanding and comprehension of credit union responsibilities and reporting procedures to the BC Financial Services Authority.
  • Provide monthly, quarterly and year-end analysis. 
  • Possess strong familiarity for reporting on credit union accruals and assets.
  • Ability to coordinate or assist with the budget process within the organization. 
  • Willingly researches accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and IFRS. 
  • Diligently works to ensure compliance with and prepare reports according to applicable government regulations.
  • Reconciles accounting inaccuracies or imbalances.
  • Analyzes and reports cost variances. 
  • Prepares and manages audits.
  • Serves as a liaison to external auditors. 
  • Reviews accounting tasks by accounting team.
  • Works with accounts receivable, accounts payable and general accounting departments.
  • Ensures the timely and accurate delivery of financial statements and reporting.
  • Produces and manages Financial Statements and analyze earnings and expenses.

Experience and education are an asset to this role.  The successful candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, an accreditation such as Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation would be considered an asset.  This role also requires 4 years of experience in Accounting and Finance and strong comprehensive advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
