We’re looking for a VP Corporate Accounting to join our team! This position is integral to the function of our organization, taking accountability for the stable delivery, audit readiness, regulatory compliance, and the effective application of accounting policies across the organization. The VP Corporate Accounting ensures the accounting function operates predictably and resiliently, even during periods of change.

  • Provide leadership and direction to support the accounting team to deliver accurate and timely financial information and reporting, ensuring initiatives are in alignment with organizational strategy.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and presentation of financial statements and reports, ensuring accurate and timely delivery and compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate audits and liaise with external auditors and internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting processes, including presenting to executive leadership and Board of Directors.
  • Continuously evaluate current financial practices and procedures focusing on efficiency and risk mitigation efforts to safeguard credit union assets.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization using technology and oversee the implementation of solutions.
  • Champion the team’s adoption and proficiency of Microsoft tools to enhance operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in accounting, finance, or a related field in addition to a CPA designation.
  • 7-10+ years of job-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of IFRS® Accounting Standards as issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (“IASB”) and the OSFI regulatory environment.
  • Proficiency in using accounting software, data analytics tools, and digital platforms (preferably Microsoft including Teams, Excel, Outlook, Copilot, Power BI and Power Query).
  • Detail-oriented and risk aware, contributing to the safeguarding of our company’s assets and reputation.
  • Proficient in digital literacy, including (but not limited to) critical thinking, problem solving and navigation using digital solutions.

  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma or University Degree in a related field. Professional privacy certifications or designations (e.g. CIPP or equivalent) is an asset.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar privacy role.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial privacy laws and guidelines in Canada, including Bill C-27, and OSFI’s B-13 and Third-Party Risk Management Guidelines.
  • Familiarity with privacy risk management and compliance, the ability to draft privacy related policies and procedures, and the competence to provide privacy related guidance where required.

  • Ensure organized credit flow and adjudication to provide maximum service levels to Consumer Advisors.

  • Develop recommendations for changes to guidelines, procedures, and best practices.

  • Advanced lending knowledge with strong skills in small business, commercial and agricultural lending.
  • Understanding of credit risk management principles, including portfolio risk, lending to higher risk industries and inherent risks embedded in lending products.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of loan underwriting standards and lending guidelines.

  • Manage the organization’s third party risk management program (TPRM) across the end-to-end lifecycle, with appropriate reporting and escalation of issues; including:
    • Manage the onboarding intake, coordinating and analyzing third party risk assessments and/or questionnaires for new engagements.
    • Conduct oversight reviews for existing third parties.
    • Coordinate and facilitate the review of risk subject matter experts and other business stakeholders as required; be the risk subject matter for TPRM and complete assessments as required.
  • Propose enhancements to the TPRM program, including recommendations on policy, practices, procedures and tooling, and support the implementation.
  • Support the implementation and roll-out of TPRM software and ensure its capabilities are developed, maintained and enhanced for continued support of the TPRM program.
  • Create and provide analytics and reporting on the performance of third-party relationships, the third party portfolio, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Relationship Owners and risk subject matter experts to develop risk mitigation and remediation actions for identified third-party risks and/or issues.
  • Collaborate with business units and third parties to manage third party risk to ensure alignment with risk appetite and strategic intents.

What will you do?

  • Review, analyze and understand the system specifications.
  • Design and create test plans, scenarios, scripts and procedures.
  • Execute manual and/or automated tests on the software application.
  • Perform testing on web and mobile devices.
  • Analyze test results, identify bugs and glitches, and report them to development teams.
  • Ensure offerings are entirely functional and provide quality assurance for software products.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Advise best practices and optimizations throughout testing and bug-fixing processes.
  • Establish and implement rigorous reporting and automated monitoring systems.
  • Implement feedback and changes whenever possible.

Some things that would impress us:

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Computer Science or a related field
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in quality assurance, software testing and troubleshooting; previous experience in financial services would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience in core banking system, online and mobile banking applications is an asset
  • Experience or working knowledge of project management and QA methodology
  • Familiarity with both Waterfall and Agile frameworks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills working with software development teams

Reporting to the Manager, Compliance, the Compliance Specialist will support the management of Financial Consumer Protection Framework Requirements across the enterprise through the use of self-assessment tools, conducting monitoring and testing activities, and integrating results into the regulatory compliance management program for risk assessment. This individual will conduct due diligence reviews and monitoring and testing activities of outsourcing and third-party arrangements including Fintech partnerships for compliance and regulatory requirements.

What will you do?

  • Assist in maturing the financial consumer protection framework requirements across the enterprise through the use of self-assessment tools, conducting monitoring and testing activities and integrating results into the regulatory compliance management program for risk assessment
  • Assist with conducting oversight and drafting reporting (internal and regulatory) associated with complaint handling obligations
  • Conduct due diligence reviews and monitoring and testing activities of outsourcing and third-party arrangements as well as Fintech partnerships for compliance with regulatory requirements including OSFI B-10 (Outsourcing of Business Activities, Functions and Processes), Bank Act and FCAC consumer provision obligations
  • Contribute to internal, public and regulatory reporting
  • Provide guidance and support to others on compliance matters
  • Support the development, review and maintenance of compliance policies, practices, and procedures
  • May be required to perform activities in support of the AML/ATF Compliance Program which may include AML or fraud alert investigations, Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews, assist with regulatory examinations, amongst other activities

Some things that would impress us:

  • Completion of a post-secondary program or a combination of industry related education and equivalent experience. Experience within a federally regulated institution is an asset.
  • Three years of experience in regulatory compliance management with focus on Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) and Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) requirements, risk assessments and compliance testing or a related role. Experience with Resolver or a similar compliance software tool is an asset.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of applicable legislation and regulations (federal and provincial)
  • Effective use of interpersonal and communication skills to connect with groups across the organization and build/manage stakeholder relationships
  • Organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through
