Director, Finance

DIRECTOR, FINANCE

As the Director, Finance, you will provide day-to-day support in the area of finance and accounting.   You will be responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting, and preparing materials for management discussion and analysis on a monthly basis.  In addition, you will be required to provide ad-hoc analysis and review of specific accounting or financial information and report on the results.

 In summary, the Director, Finance will:

  • Managing all aspects of the general ledger.
  • Performing month end duties such as account review, variance analysis and statement preparation.
  • Overseeing the accounting function to ensure that all reporting activities are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Monitoring financial and regulatory metrics and reporting trends and status to executive management.
  • Reviewing monthly information reports for regulatory reporting to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assisting in the preparation, analysis and interpretation of monthly financial reports to support decision making.
  • Analyzing accounting and financial records, and systems to ensure compliance with established accounting standards, regulations, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the annual consolidated financial statements and note disclosures.
  • Supporting the budget and forecasting processes with both preparation and oversight.
  • Providing support during both internal and external audits.
  • Developing and implementing accounting policy changes and procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting; including IFRS research where applicable.
  • Assisting with governance reporting including drafting whitepapers and memorandums as necessary.
  • Mentoring and training the accounting team to optimize departmental effectiveness.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

The “must-have” skills and qualifications that we’re looking for are:

  • The successful candidate must be certified as a Chartered Professional Accountant with a minimum of five years of experience in an accounting/finance role.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills are critical.
  • The applicant must be well-organized with a refined attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to grasp complex issues and effectively report financial results and issues in a clear and concise manner.
  • The ability to analyze data using Excel functionality is vital. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent proficiency in the MS Office suite of applications, and have the technological flexibility to learn and utilize new software applications unique to the organization.

Director of Treasury

DIRECTOR, TREASURY

As the Director, Treasury, you will play a key role by focusing on the planning and management of currencies, interest rate, and foreign exchange exposures.  You will work with the treasury & finance team and stakeholders to ensure cash management, balance sheet, and profitability metrics are being optimized. In addition, the Director will manage market-based trades for hedging interest rate risk, manage credit union investments and liquidity portfolios, and oversee liquidity and margin enhancement strategies.

 In summary, the Director, Treasury will:

  • Oversee the Asset Liability Management (ALM) and Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) functions within Treasury, making proactive recommendations for departmental improvement.
  • Review and submit monthly reports and analysis for submission to the Asset Liability Committee (ALCO).
  • Direct and oversee the Credit Union’s securitization strategy and other sources of funding as applicable.
  • Oversee the analysis and forecasting of interest margin, interest rate risk, and liquidity risk by working with analysts and colleagues to distill key price and growth assumptions.
  • Prepare in-depth analysis and reporting for executive management with regards to liquidity metrics performance vs forecast.
  • Develop the annual budget for interest margin and a monthly liquidity forecast reporting on position and ratios.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and executive management to ensure ALM metrics and profitability targets are being met.
  • Remain abreast of regulations applicable to the Credit Union and Treasury department
  • Accurately prepare short- and long-range forecasts of the balance sheet, considering concepts and strategies discussed at senior management committees.
  • Execute market-based trades for hedging interest rate risk including bond forwards and interest rate swaps.
  • Regularly review and update structural, liquidity, and market risk management policies and procedures as they relate to cash and investment management.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

The “must-have” skills and qualifications that we’re looking for are:

  • The successful candidate must be certified with a related professional designation (CFA, CPA, CA) with a minimum of five years of experience in finance within a treasury role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are critical.
  • The applicant must be well-organized with a refined attention to detail.
  • The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent proficiency in the MS Office suite of applications, and have the technological flexibility to learn and utilize new software applications unique to the organization.

Valley Credit Union, Nova Scotia, is a full-service financial institution with 7 branch locations, 55 employees, and over $ 220 Million in assets.  Located in Nova Scotia, within the Beautiful Annapolis Valley.  Valley Credit Union has an immediate need for Full Time Vice President of Member Experience.  The position will be based out of Valley Credit Union’s Head Office located in Cambridge N.S.

 

Position Summary:

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice-President, Member Experience is responsible for providing executive-level strategic leadership and direction, as well as being accountable for development and prudent management of the credit union’s lending portfolio. The incumbent plans, directs and controls the lending activities including account administration, credit extension, and business development functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and directs the asset quality control including, but not limited to, Line of Credit limits; delinquency control; loan loss exposure reduction procedures, and transactional and 3rd party risk. Oversees the completion of credit related reports and ensures quality of applications and documentation.
  • Supervises and coordinates the work of the Regional Manager, Member Experience; Manager, Credit Risk; the Senior Commercial Relationship Manager, and the Marketing Manager. Responsibilities include strategic planning, assigning, and directing work; providing ongoing coaching to reinforce positive behaviours and address performance issues as they arise; conducting performance reviews; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Recommends various personnel actions including, but not limited to, rewarding, promoting, re-assigning, discipline or termination.
  • Develops, recommends, implements, and monitors loan approval procedures including approval of loans, mortgages, and credit lines; establishment of approval limits for lending personnel; reviewing approved loans for quality and adherence to policy; addressing areas of concern; taking corrective action on potentially deteriorating situations.
  • Supervises the activities of the commercial lending function including mentoring senior staff, providing guidance on complex files and key relationships, and engaging with AC Lending Services and CUDIC when necessary. Periodically reviews approved/advanced loans to ensure risk and pricing are appropriate and that adequate security is place and is properly registered and documented
  • Coordinates the creation and implementation of Branch Business Plans. Monitors branch progress against established objectives. Provides ongoing feedback, recommendations, recognition as appropriate and develops and implements corrective measures as required.
  • Monitors credit union procedures and results in the lending services area and initiatives and/or recommends improvements to advance efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Attends/delegates attendance at Credit Committee meetings and follows-up on items arising from the meetings.
  • Promotes the credit union’s image in the community through attendance and participation in community organizations and events. Makes public presentations at events such as schools, colleges, universities, local service groups, job fairs, etc.
  • Provides substantive input on the operating budget annually and is responsible for ensuring that the required sales and relationship activities required to achieve it are in place. Monitors results and takes corrective action as appropriate.
  • Acts as back-up to the President and CEO in his/her absence, excluding matters of finance and operations.
  • Adhere strictly to Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing (AMLTF) compliance
  • Completes other projects and duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

The Vice President, Member Experience have successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Business or Commerce plus have six to nine years senior management experience in a financial institution with knowledge of Retail and Commercial Lending,  or equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have strong leadership experience.

  • Reviewing loans submissions, creating security documents, commitment letters, and lawyers’ instructions according to approved terms and conditions.
  • Managing ALL communication with lawyers – reviewing and confirming accuracy of all Lawyer prepared documents & signatures
  • Monitoring security documents, checking documentation for accuracy, and reviewing loans conditions before disbursal.
  • Monitoring and logging completion of conditions precedent, advising lenders/analysts of outstanding conditions in a timely manner.
  • Registering, tracking, and following up on all security documents to ensure accuracy and proper registration/charge.
  • Addressing or directing issues to appropriate resources for resolution, ensuring a seamless member experience.
  • Processing new loans, inputting into system, doing LTO searches, if necessary, and registrations.
  • Setting up facilities, pre-authorized payments, and collateral records on internal banking system.
  • Processing all retail, commercial/agricultural loan dispersals, advances (including progress advances) and fees, according to Crossroads Credit Union policy and guidelines.
  • Following up with Relationship Advisors and Business Analysts regarding incomplete all loan files regularly until completed, using check list.
  • Loan administration and creation of month end and quarterly reports as necessary
  • During various loan audits, providing support and provision of information as necessary.
  • Aid the Associate Manager of Credit Risk as required.

Education:

  • Applicable education or similar field. Knowledge of lending products is an asset.
  • CUIC 210 Consumer Lending and Lending Security Guide and the Law are an asset.

Prairie Centre Credit Union, Saskatchewan’s largest rural-based credit union, currently has a permanent full-time Manager Lending Support opportunity available. Reporting to the Vice President Retail Service & Support, the Manager Lending Support is responsible for promoting exceptional member relationships, products, services, and delivery of retail and syndicated lending through administrative support.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage lending products including loan creation, user acceptance testing, deployment, and issue resolution
  • Manage all loan administration processes
  • Provide banking system administration and support in relation to lending products
  • Administer, maintain, monitor, and report on PCCU, federal, and provincial lending programs and assist in the development and technical direction of lending administration programs
  • Oversee the administration of syndicated loan files
  • Coach, develop, mentor, and motivate direct reports
  • Develop and recommend policies and procedures in the lending function and act as a corporate resource on interpretation, application, and implementation
  • Research and develop lending related pricing recommendations
  • Manage the second file check process and report findings
  • Comply with PCCU policies and procedures, and identify opportunities for department/organizational efficiencies

Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree, or a combination of education and experience within the financial services industry
  • Consumer and basic agriculture lending experience preferred
  • Management level experience with an aptitude for team building and providing top-notch customer service
  • Demonstrated analytical and numeric reasonability, with exceptional attention to detail, time management, planning, and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate integrity, confidentiality, and initiative
