About The Role – Grow your career in a community you love

The Commercial Insurance Broker manages a portfolio of commercial accounts and has a primary focus on business development for Northern Savings Insurance Services.

 

Here’s what you will be doing: (Key Accountabilities)

  • Develop and manage commercial accounts while actively seeking new business to meet sales targets.
  • Generate leads from personal contacts, outbound calls, networking, client referrals, and other sources.
  • Profile members to determine current and future needs, provide comprehensive insurance advice, prepare estimates, and sell commercial insurance to both new and existing members.
  • Work on a variety of commercial insurance lines, including property, general liability, packages, auto, business owner’s policies, directors’ and officers’ coverage, employment practices liability, errors and omissions, inland marine, and bonds.
  • Meet with clients in and out of the office as needed to establish connections, determine coverage requirements, and offer basic risk management recommendations.
  • Utilize negotiating skills to find creative insurance solutions for complex risks.
  • Prepare the required paperwork for a portfolio of commercial member requests, such as routine policy updates, additions, deletions, renewals, and cancellations.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist members with their claims while adhering to proper follow-up procedures, ensuring accurate claims servicing.
  • Follow up on commercial line referrals and facilitate referrals to relevant NSCU staff.
  • Meets compliance, confidentiality and regulatory requirements and abides by management policy and office procedures.
  • Provide guidance to other insurance employees as required.

 

What we are looking for (Qualifications):

Education:

  • High school diploma is a minimum requirement.
  • Completion of post-secondary education is an asset.
  • Level II insurance broker license.
  • CAIB, CIP or FCIP designations would be preferred.
  • Completion of sales training is a requirement.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

Experience:

  • Previous commercial insurance sales and service experience is required.
  • 5 years’ personal and commercial lines experience.

Insurance – Branch Manager

As a Branch Manager with Interior Savings Insurance you are a key contributor to leading a team. You will ensure overall branch sales and service strategy, marketing plans, and operations are consistent with the direction and long-term goals & objectives of Interior Savings Insurance.

Through your coaching and leadership you will lead your team to achieve profitability of the branch. You are responsible for leading and executing on sales and service strategies in support of your region’s corporate business goals. You will be responsible for maximizing the results of your team by developing, communicating and executing monthly business plans that are aligned with the corporate strategies and contribute to the overall success by demonstrating behaviors that are consistent with Interior Savings Insurance Vision, Mission and Values.

You will coach to and follow the organizational business model when referring clients, preparing for meetings and uncovering needs. Through your strong interpersonal skills you will manage key HR functions including interviewing and hiring, coaching and training, conducting performance reviews and initiating performance improvement plans and progressive discipline as needed. You will work closely with the Regional Manager and act as a positive liaison between branch employees and the Management Team, Department Managers, and other branches. You will also perform other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Level III Insurance License
    • CAIB 1 – 4
  • Post-secondary diploma in a related field

 Experience/Knowledge

  • 5 years experience in the insurance industry
  • 3 years experience with a Level II License and in a supervisory position
  • Able to manage one of the larger branches
  • Able to manage more than one branch
  • Strong working knowledge of insurance products, including both personal and commercial lines; knowledge of appropriate legislation and regulations; ability to meet and deal effectively with clients, resource people, employees and insurance company representatives; ability to make decisions based on consideration of all relevant information; proven ability to coach, mentor, supervise and lead managers and others; working knowledge of computerized administrative systems; strong background in day to day operational issues.

The role oversees the daily operations of an insurance office as well the overall subsidiary’s performance.

Primary Purpose

The General Manager, Insurance provides strategic leadership to a multi-branch insurance agency including recommending and implementing strategies and programs to develop and grow the business. Will be responsible to lead the provision of exemplary customer service, provide for engagement of employees, manage the operations to be efficient and effective, take action to mitigate current and emerging risk, and provide for financial health of the unit while contributing to the operational and financial health of Northern Savings Insurance Services and the Credit Union as a whole.

The General Manager, Insurance professionally demonstrates positive leadership within their business unit and insurance division, the Credit Union and externally in the community. The role is responsible to develop and implement strategic and operational business objectives related to the delivery of insurance services. They are accountable for producing insurance specific financial results and customer service excellence. This role acts to inspire employees of Northern Savings Insurance Services to produce results that are in the best interest of the Credit Union, while respecting the needs of its customers and members. The General Manager, Insurance leads the development and training of employees so that they can meet their goals and achieve their maximum potential

Key Accountabilities

Knowledge of Market and Industry:

  • Maintains knowledge of internal and external insurance market with regards to services, products, rates and fees.
  • Maintains knowledge of economic factors and their implications for the business.
  • Maintains awareness of competition in the market.
  • Maintains knowledge of Credit Union products and services in order to refer customers to the branch, Businesses Services and Financial Planning.
  • Provides leadership recognition for the Credit Union through the identification of subject matter experts at Northern Savings who can share their knowledge in the community at local events or engagements
  • Identifies initiatives to facilitate the Credit Union’s corporate social responsibility in the community and works with staff and community leaders in fulfilling commitments.

Customer Service:

  • Organizes the delivery of products and services to achieve customer service excellence.

  • Ensures professional image of business unit to members and internal customers.
  • Collaborates with staff in addressing services issues and customer concerns.
  • Advises Corporate Office on challenges in delivery of products and services to maximize customer service and on changing member needs and expectations.
  • Is an advocate for Northern Savings Credit Union in attracting new members in order to build the membership base.
  • Actively seeks new customers for the insurance subsidiary and actively seeks to provide additional insurance for a customer’s full needs.

Employee Engagement:

  • Builds a positive, capable team to meet the mandate of the business unit.
  • Builds a positive work environment that is motivating to staff.
  • Works with direct reports in establishing annual personal goals and targets and supervises progress on meeting or exceeding those goals.
  • Provides coaching to enhance employee performance with respect to sales, quality of customer service, processing and delivery of policies, handling of claims, and interpersonal skills.
  • Establishes performance targets for agency branches; monitors performance and provides coaching and direction o agency branches to facilitate achievement of goals.
  • Fosters a culture consistent with the Credit Union’s values and service philosophy.
  • Delivers effective ongoing performance feedback for staff.
  • Identifies training and development needs to assist knowledge level of staff and facilitates delivery.
  • Collaborates with management team colleagues and with Corporate Office staff and leaders.

Operational Effectiveness:

  • Provides for effective functioning of Northern Savings Insurance Services and attaining stated objectives.
  • Identifies process improvements and implements such within unit and shares with other applicable units and with Corporate Office.
  • Facilitates communication between senior management and staff.
  • Contributes to the setting of the business unit’s strategic direction.
  • Addresses day to day administrative issues on a timely basis and facilitates resolutions.
  • Proactively identifies inherent risk to products and operations and implements appropriate risk responses to mitigate to acceptable tolerance.

Risk Management and Financial Health:

  • Sets unit objectives that are aligned with Credit Union’s strategic direction.
  • Actively monitors level of policy renewals and new policies, commissions, and expenses and takes action to meet established financial goals and/or advising sound reasons for adjustments required.
  • Provides referrals to other business units, i.e. Retail, Business Services, Financial Planning.
  • Ensures operations meet compliance and regulatory requirements as well as abiding by corporate level policy.
  • Proactively identifies inherent risk to products and operations and implements appropriate risk responses to mitigate to acceptable tolerance.
  • Maintains approval authority for transactions outside staff limits and delegate appropriate limits to staff members.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Completion of post-secondary education required.
  • Completion of sales training required.
  • Level 3 Nominee License

Experience:

  • Previous insurance sales and service experience is required.
  • Requires an advanced knowledge of insurance products, services, and regulations
  • Previous leadership experience is required.
  • Combination of education and/or experience will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated past community involvement is preferred.

Skills:

  • Effective coaching skills, strong leadership behaviours that motivate and inspire others to achieve directed outcomes and goals. Demonstrated sales skills.

The Business Advisor will have expert knowledge in the areas of equipment financing and the agricultural industry accountable for the overall management of a large portfolio of business accounts that exhibit a high degree of complexity and value to North Peace Savings and Credit Union.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Business Advisor is accountable for the overall management of an assigned portfolio of business credit accounts that exhibit a high degree of complexity and value to NPSCU. The focus of the position will be on maintaining and strengthening exiting member relationships and building new member relationships while ensuring all financial needs of the member are satisfied within the risk appetite of the credit union. The ability to meet financial objectives related to the profitable and sound growth and retention of assigned portfolio is critical to success. Proactively develop long-term relationships with members, service partners and local markets to optimize business opportunities and referrals enhances value. In all activities, ensures prudent risk management is followed to protect NPSCU. Provide sound financial advice and the ability to effect ‘win-win’ situations to assist members in attaining their financial aspirations.

This role requires a strong direction of equipment financing as well as a clear and thorough understanding of the agricultural industry. What you’ll do:

More specifically, as Director of Wealth & Insurance, you can expect to:

  • Manage and direct the overall operation of the Wealth division, and monitor Insurance branch activities, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures and standards;
  • Work with the Branch Managers, Insurance, to identify opportunities to introduce new products and services, make recommendations to maximize business growth, build employee engagement, develop plans, and take action to identify any gaps;
  • Work to identify, negotiate and acquire insurance company contracts, and monitor volume commitments;
  • Develop and recommend operational plans, budgets, and staffing levels to ensure that the needs of SASCU are met;
  • Take a strategic approach to analyzing data to identify opportunities and risks;
  • Champion service standards, providing coaching to ensure consistent behaviours and experiences, taking ownership of Member concerns, and resolving, or supporting staff in resolving, complex and/or difficult service situations;
  • Represent Wealth and Insurance within the business community, and work within SASCU to promote these lines of business to employees and Members;
  • Establish positive, productive relationships with external stakeholders in the industries represented by the subsidiaries, across trade associations, in government and regulatory bodies, and within the broader community to ensure successful operations;

What you’ll bring:

As the qualified professional we seek for the key role of Director, Wealth & Insurance, you will have the following profile:

  • Post-secondary degree, preferably an MBA, and experience in progressively more complex roles in the Wealth or Insurance field, with 7 to 10 years’ combined industry/sales experience, most recently in a senior management role.
  • Completion of a Senior Financial Planning designation (CFP, CIM) or a minimum of a Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB), Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), or Fraternal Insurance Counselor (FIC) designation, preferably with eligibility to act as Nominee.

As a Branch Manager, Insurance you will provide leadership to the Insurance team, including Autoplan, Personal Lines, and Commercial Lines employees, leading them to achieve objectives, ensure operational efficiency, and deliver excellent service to customers.   • Take ownership of customer concerns and resolve or support staff in correcting complex and/or difficult service situations.

  • In conjunction with the Director, Wealth and Insurance, initiate and execute marketing activities to build the insurance subsidiary portfolio and achieve growth targets.

  • Build and support relationships with internal partners (such as Wealth, Commercial, Retail) to achieve business goals and support the growth strategy.
  • In conjunction with the Director, Wealth and Insurance, establish positive and productive relationships with external stakeholders in the insurance industry, across trade associations, in government and regulatory bodies and within the broader community to ensure successful operations of agency.
  • Ensure strong and open channels of communication and collaboration within the subsidiary and across SASCU departments.
  • Is responsible for staffing (hiring and promotions) for the insurance branch and makes recommendations to the Director, Wealth and Insurance on performance improvement actions.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Two years post-secondary education, plus 5 years’ insurance experience, including 2 years at a management level (providing staff supervision and overseeing the operations of an insurance branch). An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Level 3 General Insurance Agent’s License, and a minimum of a CAIB, CIP, or FIC designation.
  • Eligibility to act as Nominee.
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of all lines of insurance products, wordings, exclusions, errors & omissions, and be familiar with risk management techniques.
  • Manages complexity, multiple tasks, and priorities for maximum personal and organizational success.
