Northern Savings Credit Union is currently seeking a dynamic and forward thinking candidate to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Retail Lending, located in Prince Rupert or Terrace, B.C., both of which offer BC’s spectacular outdoor playgrounds.  

This position provides leadership, oversight and coordination of retail lending for Northern Savings. This leader translates business strategies into credit products and services and processes to affect sound and prudent credit decisions. The Senior Manager, Retail Lending also establishes objectives and processes within the business unit.

This business unit leader is responsible for Retail Credit Adjudication, Central Lending Administration and Special Accounts and is responsible for overseeing the provision of exemplary member service, providing for engagement of employees in the unit, managing the operations to be efficient and effective, taking action to mitigate current and emerging risk, and providing for expense management of the unit while contributing to the operational and financial health of the Credit Union as a whole but with a particular focus on credit risk.

The Senior Manager, Retail Lending is to conduct their duties and carry themselves while demonstrating positive leadership within the Credit Union and externally in the community. The Senior Manager, Retail Lending is to inspire the employees of the business unit and to support retail lending officers in the branches to achieve their maximum potential and produce results in the best interest of the credit union while respecting and delivering the needs of members.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintains knowledge of retail lending market with regards to services, products, rates, and fees.

  • Maintains knowledge of current market activity locally and nationally.

  • Maintains knowledge of economic factors and implications for the behaviour of credit risk

  • Maintains awareness of competitor’s products and features in products.

  • Develops and fosters key relationships within the credit union system and with key partners.

  • Keeps current on regulatory changes and implications for the business line.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:

  • Completion of post-secondary education is required.

  • Completion of retail credit lending program is required.

    Experience:

  • Previous and extensive retail lending experience required.

  • Previous experience evaluating and drafting policy and procedures is preferred.

  • Previous financial services experience is required.

  • Extensive credit background and experience in evaluating all aspects of credit decisions, including risk, at a corporate level.

    Skills:

  • Experience in research and negotiation is an asset.

  • Expert banking system knowledge and skills required.

  • Expert knowledge of retail lending products and services required.

  • Expert knowledge of Credit Risk policy is required.

  • Ability to prioritize, organize work within time constraints, under pressure and competing priorities.

  • Ability to communicate and liaise professionally with all members, potential customers and co-workers while maintaining confidentiality.

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

  • Working knowledge, skills and experience in Microsoft Office.

    Travel is a requirement of this position.
