THE POSITION: Reporting to the Chief People & Development Officer, this position is responsible to ensure that Innovation Credit Union’s business practices and procedures are following the law and advise the Credit Union on recommended actions and the business effect of any legal decisions that are made. This position will also have oversight of governance practices and principles that guide the Credit Unions business and ensures its accountability to the Board of Directors.  The successful candidate will be results driven, accompanied by the capacity to anticipate potential obstacles and seamless integration of activities, exceptional interpersonal abilities for relationship management.  In addition, they will demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, integrity and ethical standards. Responsibilities include: 

  • Oversee legal services in an efficient and effective manner, and if needed, ensure appropriate external counsel is excised in a cost-efficient manner
  • Proficient in legal research to ensure that the credit union is following the most recent rules and regulations
  • Can review and provide opinion on agreements and initiatives
  • Provide expertise and be active in the team tasked with transitioning the credit union into the Federal Regulatory environment as one of Canada’s first Federal Credit Unions
  • Provide Governance expertise as well as maintaining and updating the governance framework, monitoring compliance with requirements in framework that ensures it meets or exceeds all expectations of the regulator
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Credit Union policy and procedures as well as legislative and regulatory laws/regulations and be accountable to ensure they supported by the risk management process

Some of the Skills and Abilities we would prefer to see in your application:

  • Must have LL.B (Bachelor of Law) 
  • Must be a member in good standing, or eligible for membership in the Law Society of Saskatchewan 
  • Corporate Law experience of no less than 2 years 
  • Experience in regulations for Financial Intuitions. 
  • Knowledge of the Bank Act of Canada associated requirements. 
  • Experience in strong Governance models
  • Proven organization skills, highly motivated, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment 
  • Demonstrated commitment to continual professional development 

Compensation will commensurate with qualifications and experience. Innovation Credit Union offers a comprehensive employee benefits package including a 7% company matched pension plan. An attractive variable incentive program is also available.

Salary Range: $103,311 - $129,138
