Purpose of Position

Reporting to the Manager, Business Solutions and working under general supervision, the Business Account Representative I will be responsible for sourcing and recommending sales for the Credit Union and for attainment of established objectives.  The incumbent will be responsible to promote, up sell and cross sell the full range of credit union products and services.  The individual will also provide technical support on commercial and agriculture accounts to branch staff in the development and management of commercial and agriculture accounts, and all functions of credit granting and control to satisfy member needs and protect the interests of the Credit Union.

You will contribute to the overall success of the Credit Union by providing a high level of service to all internal and external members/customers and supporting the cultural shift to a NIMBLE organization.

Duties & Responsibilities

Commercial & Agricultural Lending

  • Complete commercial and agricultural loan applications including submissions and ensure the appropriate documentation has been obtained.
  • Present loan applications to the appropriate level of authority (Credit Adjudication, The Credit Committee, Credit Union Central of Manitoba)
  • Evaluate security, investigate creditworthiness, and analyze financial information presented as part of a credit application including discussions with external advisors or members.
  • Evaluate and recommend proposed loan terms or interest rates with appropriate authorities; and contact member to negotiate repayment rates/terms and administrative costs to be paid.
  • Ensure instructions outlining conditions of loan are clearly laid out in source documents for Centralized Loans Administration to prepare the appropriate loan documentation
  • Review loan file and membership file documentation with member, have members sign appropriate documentation
  • Acquire knowledge and understanding of all Government programs such as Canada Small Business Loans Act (CSBLA), Rural Enterprise Assistance (REA), Manitoba Business Start (ITT), Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation (MASC) for use with members.
  • Acquire knowledge and understanding of all alternative funding sources such as Loan Syndications, CU Lease Financial Services Ltd, Concentra Financial, Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), Farm Credit Canada (FCC), Community Futures Development Corporations for referrals for members when appropriate.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Grow Our Business - Sales & Service

  • Develop and maintain a membership base through sales & cold calls and referrals.  Interview members or potential members to gather information, identify needs and determine mutual interest.
  • Work with branches to solicit new & potential members with intent to expand the commercial and agricultural loan base.  Maintain necessary records to establish trends and monitor results.
  • Support and work closely with branches within the various branch communities, assist in the identification of market area and members needs, promote efficient service and the training of branch personnel.
  • Recommend annual or longer term objectives for sales growth and profitability of the commercial/agricultural loan base.  Initiate and/or implement marketing programs designed to achieve these objectives.

Teamwork & Organizational Contribution

  • Support and work closely with branches or corporate office staff to co-ordinate the provision of efficient and effective service delivery internally to other staff, externally to members.
  • Work with other Business Solutions department team members to maintain member service delivery standards in the absence of another member.
  • Operate with approved budgets.

Risk Management & Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory policies along with the Credit Union’s internal policies over the granting of credit including but not limited to: provision of credit (terms, amortizations, etc.), valuation of loan security, documentation practices, and any other matter pertaining to commercial/agricultural lending.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures relative to the Commercial/Agriculture Lending administrative functions
  • Ensure review and verification of appropriate membership documentation for all members in the commercial/agricultural lending process.

General Administration

  • Ensure adhere to policies and procedures relative to all other Westoba Credit Union administrative function.

Work Complexity Characteristics

  • Will have responsibility for an assigned portfolio of specific members and branch locations.
  • Will be directly responsible for the co-ordination/provision of service and sales, the completion of credit submissions and the analysis of data.
  • Complexity of accounts handled will be files in the small business or agriculture markets with a majority low to medium complexity.  A limited number of complex accounts may also be included.

Position Requirements

Learning & Development

  • Regulatory compliance training (AML, Privacy and Safety & Health) as required
  • CUMIS Sales and Service Training complete within 3 months of start date.
  • Sales Training (EDGE or other organization approved equivalent) within 6 months of start date.
  • Accredited Business Lender Program – Completed within 36 months of start date
    • Introduction to Business Financial Statement Analysis completed within 9 months of start date.
  • Agricultural Lending CUC 346 completed within 36 months of start date as appropriate.

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or Equivalent
  • Post secondary degree/diploma related to Business, Agriculture, Accounting

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three to Five years or more of lending experience in a financial institution including One year in a business or agricultural lending position.
  • Eligibility for membership in a professional body such as Chartered Professional Accountant, Manitoba Institute of Agrologists.
  • Previous experience in a sales and member service role working directly with the public.
  • Previous experience working in an office.

Skills

  • Competent with standard office software packages. (i.e. Microsoft Office, Excel)
  • Ability to organize and manage time independently to meet deadlines.

Working conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Standard office environment.
  • Frequent travel with mobility to meet members at locations of their choosing.
  • Frequent repetitive use of computer terminal for extended periods.
