Prospera Credit Union has an exciting opportunity for a Treasurer to join our Finance team at our Corporate Office in Abbotsford!

In this role, you will lead the management and execution of the Credit Union’s treasury strategy, policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to all liquidity regulations and internal policies and controls. This includes accountability for all functions relative to overall liquidity, borrowing, investments, securitization, hedging, derivatives and foreign exchange in support of attaining the organization’s financial goals.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as a business partner and leader to both Operational Finance and Financial Planning and Analysis to achieve collaboration on execution of treasury processes, transactions, margin forecasting and reporting.
  • Manage the securitization process: identify securitization requirements as part of ALM, liquidity and performance management, analyze options, select external partners and initiate action as required to capitalize on securitization opportunities. Account for securitized assets in accordance with IFRS including treatment of related fees, premiums or discounts and valuations upon execution and ongoing maintenance.
  • Manage the derivative portfolio: identify hedge transaction requirements and opportunities as part of interest rate risk and performance management, analyze options, select external partners and recommend action. Account for derivatives in accordance with IFRS including treatment of related fees and valuations upon execution and ongoing maintenance.
  • Provide leadership for the Credit Union’s pricing function through recommendation and administration of existing and new products and services, supported by coordination of rate surveys and market scans combined with a high level of experience based judgement. Manage discretionary pricing guidelines for use by branch staff and the Treasury support team and approve discretionary pricing quotes for unique circumstances upon request from branch staff.
  • Act as a key advisor to the ALCO by providing technical advice, guidance, support, recommendations and reporting on treasury activities. Identify potential interest rate and market risk for committee review and action.
  • Responsible for financial margin forecasting and budgeting and scenario planning, working together with Financial Planning and Analysis.
  • Responsible for financial statement note disclosure in accordance with IFRS, year-end reconciliations and audit support, working together with Operational Finance.
  • Collaborate with other areas within Finance on accounting and analysis, sharing of financial information and knowledge, including reviewing existing processes and software, making recommendations for improvements and implementing changes.
  • Ensure compliance in and keep abreast of changes in regulations, rules, policies, procedures and legislation relating to the Credit Union’s treasury operations. Present findings and recommendations to the VP, Finance.

 What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree with an Accounting or Treasury designation (CPA or similar), combined with ten years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Completion of or progression towards a CFA designation would be an asset;
  • Thorough knowledge of banking procedures and transactions, including an understanding of how they relate to the operation and profitability of the Credit Union;
  • Thorough knowledge, experience and proficiency in IFRS, specific to accounting for Financial Instruments;
  • Extensive knowledge of financial institution treasury operations and asset securitization administration;
  • Extensive knowledge of and exposure to Asset Liability Management;
  • Extensive knowledge of statistical analysis techniques, derivative structures and financial margin budgeting;
  • Ability to plan, schedule and prioritize work assignments;
  • Ability to lead others; to provide coaching and motivate teamwork;
  • Ability to exercise judgement in risk assessment is required when making decisions;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Strong written and oral communication techniques.
