Primary Purpose:

Northern Savings Credit Union is seeking a temporary 2 year Senior Accountant located in Prince Rupert, BC.

The Senior Accountant provides strategic leadership in directing the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and reporting. This role is critical in providing streamlined processing to ensure the integrity and accuracy of management and board reports used for organizational decision making. The Senior Accountant will provide coverage for the various operational and board related duties of the VP Finance.

General Duties:

  • Responsible for assisting and leading the implementation of a new ERP system.

  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and reports for review by senior management, Board of Directors and regulatory agencies.

  • Assists in the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets for review.

  • Assists in the incorporation of departmental budgets into the overall credit union budget and assists in budget presentations.

  • Ensures appropriate reporting systems are in place at the departmental level.

  • Monitors and manages overall credit union accounts payable and general ledger accounts.

  • Monitors credit union accounting systems and procedures, identifying short-comings and introduces new and improved accounting methods.

  • Develops and makes recommendations to executive management, the implementation of new and revised accounting policies and standards.

  • Provides exceptional service by being knowledgeable, able to discern needs, and maintaining confidentiality.

  • Assists with expense management and reimbursement.

  • Monitors and manages treasury transactions, such as Cash, Foreign Exchange, Investment maturity, etc.

  • Acts as a back-up for other accounting staff.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:

  • Secondary School Diploma required.

  • Completion of post-secondary education as asset.

  • CPA designation preferred but not required.  It is required to be working towards an accounting designation.

    Experience:

  • Previous accounting experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Previous financial services experience preferred.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

    Skills:

  • Expert Knowledge in Microsoft Excel.

  • Working knowledge of Simply Accounting preferred.

  • Working knowledge of credit union banking system and familiarity with the internet.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work within time constraints, under pressure and competing priorities.

  • Analytical and detail oriented.
