Northern Savings Credit Union, based in Prince Rupert, BC is seeking a new CEO to lead the credit union into the future.
Northern Savings is a progressive community-based credit union with over $630 Million in assets, four branches and an insurance subsidiary. Over the past two years, the credit union has undertaken a strategic transformation that leverages organizational strengths and positions the credit union for long term success. An exciting opportunity exists for a new CEO to continue leading this journey through the changing and complex financial services landscape. 

We are looking for an experienced visionary, collaborative leader with a successful track record in financial services. You are a consummate relationship builder who engages employees, Board members and the community to grow your organization and benefit your members. You are innovative and resourceful in analyzing issues, finding solutions and implementing actions to meet the objectives of the credit union. 

In the coming years you will bring Northern Savings’ values to life by leading the credit union in a way that continues to maintain sound financial management and sustainability, builds upon our trusted genuine membership experience, and ensures a seamless and cohesive organization.

You will lead the continued development of an organizational culture that:

  • embodies trust and respect between and amongst staff, management, members, Board and the community; 
  •  promotes learning and development at all levels; and
  • drives accountability and decision making through the organization.

You are committed and passionate about engaging members and developing community-based initiatives that strengthen the communities we serve today and in the future.

Our ideal candidate is a proven leader who has:

  • Degree with a business focus; CPA designation is an asset;
  • Eight or more years in a financial services senior management or executive leadership capacity;
  • Exceptional financial acumen and deep understanding of financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Credit Union legislation and regulatory requirements;
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership that supports the strategic direction of the Board;
  • The ability to translate strategy into long and short-term action plans, and creates excitement for the future and engages and motivates employees to deliver on the desired goals and objectives;
  • The ability to recognize and analyze emerging trends and implement actions to maximize performance and mitigate risks;
  • Demonstrated the importance of people and their contribution to the organization’s results through policies, practices, reward systems and ongoing professional development of employees; 
  • Success in coaching and mentoring employees, and building strong leadership bench-strength in the organization for succession and business continuity; 
  • The ability to assess innovative ideas and think creatively, driving organization-wide innovation and positive change while involving and engaging others in the process;
  • A proven track record of building strong relationships, engaging stakeholders, and partnering effectively with the elected Board of Directors; 
  • Excellent interpersonal and strong communication skills with demonstrated strengths in public speaking;

Prince Rupert is a coastal city of about 14,000 people on the coast of Northwest British Columbia. It is situated next to the Great Bear Rainforest and is one of two port cities in British Columbia.
