Position Summary

People and Culture plays an integral role in the success of AWCCU Financial. The primary responsibilities for the People and Culture Generalist will be to work with the Chief Experience Officer to lead and implement People and Culture (P&C) strategies, programs and initiatives such as: administering payroll, recruitment, compensation and benefits, employee engagement, policy development, performance management, labour relations and health and safety. The generalist will have superior communication skills, and collaborate proactively with managers to ensure departmental objectives are met. Helping AWCCU develop and maintain an empowering work environment, enriched and engaged employees and support key P&C initiatives and help drive process improvement.

Position Responsibilities

· Ensures all HR programs, policies and processes are implemented in a manner that supports AWCCU’s strategy and goals and keep the organization up to date on best practices and new trends or developments.

· Updates and maintains all People and Culture related policy and procedure.

· Proactively sources new and exciting human resources programs and approaches to employee engagement, job satisfaction, recruitment, retention, performance management and career planning.

· Provides advice to managers and employees on HR related matters.

· Works on positive resolution in employee relations and ensures employee engagement.

· Analyses recruiting needs, designs and executes the overall recruitment, talent and on-boarding strategies. Runs the full-cycle recruitment process. 

· Develops and implements annual employee surveys and initiatives derived from results.

· Manage union partnership; maintain strong, fair and equitable relationship with union stewards; manage employee grievances; conduct job evaluations; work with labour relations; manage the pension and benefits arrangements and keep employees and managers up-to-date with ESA rules, health and safety and compliance.

· Assist with the creation and distribute the AWCCU newsletter.

· Maintain employee files and administrative functions of the People and Culture department.

· Maintain current on HR best practices, taking courses and webinars to support continuous learning strategy.

· Processing weekly full-cycle payroll activities (ADP).

· Participate in management of employee group insurance and pension administration, renewals and reviews.

· Plays a key role in employee development, employee engagement, performance management, succession planning, coaching, employment law, policy interpretation.

· Understands labour relations and collective bargaining agreements.

· Support Employee Health and Wellness program to support and enhance employee engagement including research and development of programs, wellness sessions and initiatives.

· Support People and Culture team including: researching, coordinating and organizing training sessions (booking of rooms, equipment required, etc.); conducting training as required.

Education & Experience

· A diploma or degree in Human Resources, Organizational Behaviour, Industrial Relations or a related discipline is required.

· 3-5 years’ human resources experience with 1-3 years being in a generalist role.

· CHRP/CHRL designation is an asset.

· Experience working in unionized environment is an asset.

· Payroll experience is an asset.

· Experience working in a financial institution is an asset.

· Ability to travel to all AWCCU Financial locations

· Ability to work flexible hours, when required

· Must be bondable

· Valid driver’s licence and vehicle
