Position Summary

People and Culture plays an integral role in the success of AWCCU Financial. The Learning and Development Specialist supports AWCCU’s vision of People helping People and fosters a culture of coaching and continuous learning. The primary responsibilities for the L&D Specialist will be to work with the Chief Experience Officer to lead and implement People and Culture (P&C) strategies, programs and initiatives such as: planning, developing and implementing employee training programs and materials, employee recognition programs, performance management systems and compensation programs.

Position Responsibilities

· Guides and facilitates organizational culture and values.

· Contributes to improvements in the organization’s structures and work processes.

· Provides performance management, coaching and career development advice to management, teams and individuals.

· Develops and implements measurement systems and tools for job performance to support business goals.

· Develops and delivers programs to employees based on adult learning principles.

· Manages and tracks training registrations and grants; works within L&D budget.

· Develops and implements measurement tools and processes ensuring participant and organizational feedback is documented and evaluated.

· Assists employees in identifying career paths, establishing learning plans and activities required for achieving personal success.

· Conducts training needs assessments by identifying individual and corporate learning requirements.

· Provides coaching and post-training support to ensure transfer of learning to the workplace.

· Develop and maintain position learning plans, job descriptions and job postings.

· Recommends the selection of external training consultants and contractors when needed.

· Ensures arrangements are made for training schedules, facilities, trainers, participants, equipment and course materials.

· Supports sales and business development by providing staff with high quality training programs and reference materials on AWCCU’s products, services and philosophies.

· Maintains current knowledge of industry trends and competitor products and strategies.

· Provides effective sales coaching to managers and employees.

· Creates and distributes the AWCCU newsletter and updates AWCCU intranet.

· Assists with full-cycle recruitment.

· Experience in HRIS systems, recruitment and on-boarding experience

· Experience in developing performance management tools.

· Detail-oriented and very organized, with well-developed time management skills, enabling the achievement of deadlines and the effective handling of multiple priorities.

Education & Experience

· A diploma or degree in Human Resources, Organizational Behaviour, Industrial Relations or a related discipline is required.

· Adult learning certificate, course facilitation or related work experience.

· 2-3 years’ human resources experience with 1-2 years being in an organization development or learning and development role.

· CHRP/CHRL designation is an asset.

· Experience working in unionized environment is an asset.

· Payroll experience is an asset.

· Experience working in a financial institution is an asset.

· Ability to travel to all AWCCU Financial locations.

· Ability to work flexible hours, when required.

· Must be bondable.

· Valid driver’s licence and vehicle
