The Opportunity: Director of Advisory Services and People

Reporting to the Chief Member and People Officer (CMPO), the Director of Advisory Services and People enriches members’ lives by contributing to an exceptional member and employee experience.  This is accomplished by proactively coaching employees on strategies to enhance the financial health of members.  The primary focus of this role is to ensure exceptional service is delivered through all retail and subsidiary operations, while supporting the development and implementation of proactive sales strategies, programs, and tools.  This position supports leaders in building and leading high-performing, engaged teams and provides operational leadership to the credit union’s wealth management team.
The Director of Advisory Services and People is a self-motivated, results-oriented individual with exceptional leadership, coaching, and relationship building skills with a proven ability to drive the execution of sales and service strategies.  Travel is a requirement of the position. 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or designation requiring three to four years’ full-time study in business or related field;
  • Six to nine years’ sales management experience, including at least three years of financial experience and a minimum of three years at a management level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Advanced knowledge of HR expertise, performance coaching techniques, and tools and processes;
  •  Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, along with strong organizational and implementation skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • Solid understanding of the financial services industry in Canada including products, services, processes and practices, and associated regulatory and legislative controls;
  • Understanding of human resource practices and related regulatory and legal requirements;
  • Experience with and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies, and tools;
  • Excellent leadership abilities with the ability to create and sustain a culture focused on relationship-building, achieving results, and internal service achievements;
  • Alignment of personal values with the values of SCCU; acts in a fair, ethical manner and creates a culture that fosters high standards of trust and integrity;
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold confidentiality and manage sensitive situations;
  • Keen interest and understanding of market trends, competitive environment, and members’ business needs; and
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
