Job Function:

The Senior Commercial Loans Officer supports the commercial lending function by developing relationships with business members and serving their business lending needs; assessing member needs and recommending lending products that suit their objectives; structuring and negotiating loans for business members; and making recommendations for approval to V.P. Commercial Credit for further recommendation to the Credit committee. 

Key Responsibility Areas:

A. Commercial Lending Administration

  • Fully conversant with commercial credit policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Fully conversant with the role and duties of the Commercial Credit Administrators and provide coverage if required.
  • Fully conversant in all Loan and security documentation and supports the assigned administrator in delegated transactions for accurate and timely completion.
  • Conducts annual reviews of loans in accordance with credit union policy.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations for loan renewals within assigned portfolio
  • Proactively manages risks by monitoring delinquencies and takes action to minimize risk and loss

B. Commercial Lending

  • Fully conversant with all commercial lending products, security, and underwriting practices.
  • Assesses member needs and recommends lending solutions
  • Coordinates with the existing commercial lenders, structures and negotiates Small to Medium and of standard complexity lending arrangements according to member financial analysis and business plan 
  • Conducts due diligence for new business loans and develop recommendations for approval to V.P. Credit for Further recommendation to credit committee

C. Business Development

  • Builds relationships with new and existing members and provides high quality member service
  • Identifies member needs and cross-sells and refers appropriate credit union product
  • Participates in advisory committees for the purpose of development of  commercial lending programs in order to increase membership and serve member needs

D.  Other

  • Adheres to security procedures as they pertain to the position
  • Actively participates in credit union meetings
  • Participates in community activities that enhance the credit unions image
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Conducts site visits in accordance with company policy


Education and experience: 

Post-secondary undergraduate degree in a business or related discipline, and 5 years sales or lending experience,or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  A commitment to learning and development is required.
