The Opportunity:  Director, Credit

The Director, Credit upholds a safe and sound lending culture in Westminster Savings Credit Union by making prudent credit decisions in compliance with WSCU Lending Policy within delegated limits and providing recommendations to the Chief Credit Officer for loans exceeding these limits. 

This role has enhanced responsibility in the areas of strategy development and implementation, organizational performance, corporate communication, people leadership, decision making and problem solving.  The Director, Credit is responsible for providing coaching and mentoring to managers and ensuring corporate business goals and objects are met and/ or exceeded.

The Director reports to the SVP, Commercial Operations and Chief Credit Officer.  Direct reports for this role include the Manager, Retail Credit and retail credit/leasing credit team, as well as the Manager, Commercial Credit and commercial credit leasing credit team.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce or a related discipline;
  • Seven to ten years’ related experience in a management role, with a minimum of three years in a senior management capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven business development skills with a commitment to community involvement;
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact and negotiate, both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of people;
  • Superior organizational and time management skills with an emphasis on detail;
  • Detailed knowledge of and experience in retail, commercial and lease lending;
  • In-depth understanding of accounting principles and financial statements, including cash flow analysis;
  • In-depth understanding of loan documentation, legal and practical concepts of collateral;
  • Working knowledge of loan realization;
  • Strong negotiation skills with sound judgment decision-making skills;
  • Proficient with various computer software programs.
