Reporting to the Chief Financial & Risk Officer, the Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis leadsthe company’s financial forecasting and budgeting processes, and is the central figure in providing financial information and metrics that support effective, data driven management of the business.This position supports business decisions by providing financial analysis and modeling of various business options as well as works with managers at all levels to provide relevant metrics to assess success with accurate and relevant reporting. The Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis is seen as a subject matter expert who provides financial expertise to the organization while ensuring accordance to GAAP and IFRS. As a subject matter expert in financial analysis and budget preparation, this role directs the preparation of internal financial statements and reporting, as well as presents the annual corporate budget to the Executive, Audit and Risk Committee and the Board of Directors. In addition, this position oversees both the payroll and financial reporting functions for the organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities include:

Strategic Operations

  • Assists the Chief Financial & Risk Officer (CFRO), with the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic plans, goals and objectives for the payroll and financial reporting and analysis stream of the Finance Department, including assisting with the analysis of current systems and procedures, and future requirements of the organization as a whole.
  • Provides oversight and leadership on corporate projects providing strategic guidance on the application of financial metrics, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates as a member of the senior management team in the strategic planning process for the organization; identifies short and long term goals and objectives; contributes to the design and development of policies and programs to meet those goals; provides technical advice and consultative support in areas related to financial performance management.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Overall accountability for the development, implementation, management and monitoring of the process for annual budget preparation of all business lines and corporate consolidation.
  • Is the subject matter expert with cost analysis, fiscal allocation, and budget preparation providing advice and technical assistance to the organization.
  • Is proactive in the development of new financial reports and metrics to support the corporate direction and plan and managing regulatory requirements.

Financial System Management

  • Oversees the identification, development, and implementation of improvements and enhancements in system usage and delivery to improve accuracy, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversees system set up and supports development of technical expertise for the Financial ERP system, and the integration with the business systems and any other 3rd party software.

Financial Leadership

  • Provides financial expertise and leadership to project teams as required and is the primary finance lead on required project teams, as well as acts as a resource to the CFRO for special projects that may occur.
  • Is a subject matter expert in financial analysis that provides advice for the Executive, management and Board of Directors.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Professional Accountant or FP & A certification with completion of a Business Degree.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in an accounting / finance/analyst role.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience working in a financial institution.
  • Minimum four (4) years’ supervisory experience.
  • Applied knowledge of enterprise financial planning and analysis, accounting systems, report writing and budget & forecasting systems.
  • Knowledge expert in financial metrics, forecasting, accounting policies, and processes to ensure compliance with IFRS and applicable accounting or regulatory changes.
  • Knowledge expert for all statutory reports with the Financial Institutions Commission of BC (FICOM), including the Capital Adequacy reporting.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and data management.
  • Working knowledge of payroll regulations, compliance and processes an asset.
