SALARY RANGE:      $24.91 - $29.30 (hourly)

                                    $1,868.25 - $2,197.50 (bi-weekly)

                                    Grade 10 (2017 Salary Scale)

The Centralized Collections Officer is responsible for monitoring and collecting delinquent accounts, mitigating losses while preserving member relations. The role discusses options with members to resolve delinquencies; liaises with legal counsel and provides relevant documentation for action.  The role provides back up support to administrative roles in the Centralized Credit Department.


The successful candidate will be accountable for:


  • Responsible for processing delinquent loans, mortgages and LOC’s as per established policies, procedures and timelines;
  • Reviews, analyzes and prepares recommendations on all accounts requiring repossession or foreclosure to the Senior Manager, Credit;
  • Reviews, analyzes all accounts and makes recommendations on all personal property seizures and property foreclosures;
  • Receives and processes government demands, Requirements to Pay, Maintenance Enforcement, Requirements for Information, Court ordered demands on third parties and remit funds/information to the appropriate parties in accordance with policies, procedures and timeframes; 
  • Monitors and identifies problem accounts and determines appropriate steps to be taken in accordance with established collection policies, procedures and timeframes;
  • Composes and distributes correspondence relative to delinquent accounts and preparing period end reports for the Senior Manager, Credit and Board of Directors;
  • Reviews and recommends broker submissions for approval within established guidelines/policies and risk tolerance;
  • Maintains established broker program service level agreements and be the contact point for broker questions or inquiries;
  • Prepares commitment letters in a timely and efficient manner to ensure information is complete and follow up with brokers for any missing information;
  • Prepares Credit Master documentation, legal package and ensures pre-disbursement audit is completed prior to the hand off to sales floor;
  • Assists in the promotion of the broker channel by providing required information, distributing materials including information on rates and broker packages;
  • Balances various accounts and general ledgers to ensure accuracy;
  • Answers and investigates queries from brokers, solicitors and branch staff as required;
  • Disburses funds as required for mortgages, loans and LOC’s;
  • Maintains follow up of construction mortgage files for supporting documentation and revert to repayment status once project complete;


Education, Training and Experience:


One year of post-secondary education or equivalent, plus three (3) years of recent credit union experience in collections and one (1) year of experience lending or providing lending support.

Solid understanding of collections and retail lending policies, procedures, and regulations.


Technical Competencies:


  • Advanced communication skills with the ability to negotiate and navigate challenging conversations;
  • Ability to adhere to professional, regulatory and industry standards;

  • Knowledge of Personal Property Securitization Act, an asset;

  • Knowledgeable and enthusiastic about SASCU;

  • Strong organizational and time management skills;

  • High level of ownership, accountability and initiative;

  • Comfort level with technology and proficiency using SASCU’s banking system and programs available on the desktop;

  • Commitment to continuous learning and self-development;
