Position Overview

As a member of the management team the Vice President, Business Development is responsible for providing leadership, direction and overseeing the coaching of CUSO wealth advisors and service teams. Assisting with the establishing of long-term organizational strategic goals, developing key client relationships, identifying opportunities for business growth, and maintaining an extensive knowledge of the CUSO Four Cornerstone approach.

This position requires a leader who demonstrates exceptional leadership skills, has the ability to build organizational commitment across the CUSO Wealth Strategies Inc. shareholder base, and has strong business development and negotiation skills.

Key Accountabilities

Reporting to the CEO of CUSO Wealth Strategies the VP, Business Development has responsibilities in the following areas:

Business Development

· Develops and manages an effective wealth management growth business plan

· Implements effective growth strategies and/or tactics to assist advisors in deepening client relationships in all offers to achieve results

· Monitors and manages sales progress to plan and includes compliance on financial advice component and risk

· Supports shareholder credit unions in their recruitment efforts to interview and select high potential advisor candidates

· Effectively manages partnerships with key internal and select external colleagues at the supplier level

· Establishes and supports standards and defines activities ensuring effective implementation and alignment with CUSO Four Cornerstone corporate initiatives and Vision/Guiding Principles


· Models CUSO’s leadership competencies and creates an environment where employees can contribute to their full potential and be fully engaged with the mission of the organization

· Provides leadership to the advisor teams and support staff at the various CUSO partner's in relevant wealth management product lines to maximize profitability (revenue, funds managed growth), productivity, and member penetration/acquisition and retention

· Support the best practices “Proven Strategies Advantages" process with hosting regular coaching calls, and holding on site visits, and leading workshops using various channel mediums

· Ensures all operational activities are in compliance with sound business practices, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures, as it relates to position requirements

· Assists in establishing performance standards, evaluating performance of direct reports, identifying development needs and recommending programs to maintain and increase skill levels to enhance staff growth

· Exceptional skills in coaching and mentoring to development others and coaching for achievement of results

· Proven business development expertise and ability to coach advisers to provide financial advice and solutions to meet client needs through a high performing sales and service team

· Acute business acumen; understanding issues and responding appropriately to the diverse requirements of a rapidly growing organization

· Excellent decision making, problem solving and time management skills with the demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and critical thinking in the absence of all information

· Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

· Exemplary leadership capabilities, taking a collaborative approach building strong relationships

· Strong analytical, sales management, and project management and implementation skills

Experience & Education

· Seven to ten years' experience in the financial services industry and specialization in wealth services would be an asset

· Professional Financial Planning designation or CFP (preferred) designation and a life license would be an asset

· Leadership experience of a sales team

· Bachelor's degree or business diploma preferred or combined experience
