We are looking for a full-time Finance Manager to join our management team. Reporting to the CEO, this position is based at our Head Office in Kitchener. This position is accountable for the accounting and reporting functions of Education Credit Union. There is a large focus in this role on conducting in-depth financial analysis and making specific financial recommendations to the CEO and to senior management. 

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Preparation of monthly consolidated financial statements 
  • Review of all financial reporting to the Board of Directors and continued enhancement of reporting package to Senior Executive team and Senior Management team
  • Review of the monthly DICO reporting requirements (IMIR) and review of annual submission to DICO (AMIR)
  • Monitoring and analyzing monthly operating results while ensuring integration of budget process into Education Credit Union’s overall business plan
  • Performs cost analysis, financial modeling, forecasting and identify potential risks to the CEO and Operations Manager
  • Work closely with CEO and Operations Manager to assist with the budget preparation, business plan and produce periodic (quarterly) re-forecasts
  • Ensure that reported results comply with International Financial Reporting Standards, DICO (Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario) and credit union policies
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to senior management
  • Supervision, coaching, and leadership to four direct reports
  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for both interim and year-end audit
  • Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report
  • Review tax filings as prepared by the external auditor   
  • Accounting requirements of Registered Plans
  • Payroll/Benefits/Pension administration
  • Act as the Credit Union security officer
  • Act as the Credit Union Compliance officer for Proceeds of Crime/Terrorist Activity requirements (AML) 
  • Develop understanding of the treasury roles (back-up)

As the ideal candidate, you are currently a finance/accounting manager with a CPA designation. You have a proven track record of making recommendations to management that improve organizational financial performance. 

Essential requirements: 

  • 3 - 5 years of progressive accounting experience (CPA designation is preferred)
  • Post secondary education in a related field
  • A very strong communicator (both written and verbal) with the ability to conduct effective management and Board presentations
  • Able to proactively identify and anticipate financial issues and make effective and practical recommendations
  • Sound decision-making, problem-solving, budgeting, and time management skills
  • Strong analysis and financial modeling skills 
  • Strong financial information systems/IT knowledge (incl. advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel)
  • Ability to work independently, organize work and meet deadlines within an environment of constantly changing priorities

Assets: 

  • Prior work experience in the financial services sector
  • Knowledge of the Credit Union system
