Senior Branch Manager, PACE Savings and Credit Union

Independently, manages/oversees the overall operation of the branch and satellite branch, including growth and maintenance of the investment, loans portfolios, cash operations, facilities management of the branch within the approved policies, procedures, certification standards & operating budgets set for the year. Initiates action to improve the growth and development of the branches loan and deposit portfolios.  Manages directly or indirectly all branch staff, implements marketing plans for product and service promotion to members and analyzes branch business progress producing relevant reports as required. The incumbent is the leader for effective team-building.


Monday to Friday 8:30 – 4:15. Due to deadlines and time constraints, the hours of work may extend beyond the normal work week. There can be numerous and varied responsibilities which require constant prioritizing to ensure that all branch duties are completed efficiently, accurately and on a timely basis. It is a requirement of this position to be able to perform well under pressure from many situations while working towards meeting the agreed upon goals within the set time frames.


A. Personnel, Coaching & Mentoring:

  • Fair allocation of the credit unions annual business goals to each reporting staff.
  • Setting annual performance goals for direct reports along with working on their development plans.
  • Conducts sales meetings ensuring that agreed upon action steps are recorded and acted on.
  • Conducts performance reviews for direct reports ensuring that deficient performance areas have corrective action agreed to and completed as agreed upon.
  • Initiates discipline of direct reports as required.
  • Supports adherence to the credit union sales/service culture in daily branch operations.
  • Follows up on audit findings with the department staff.
  • Coaches staff on sales techniques and cross selling of credit union products and services.

B. Service:

  • Manages the overall branch and satellite branch operations, including growth and maintenance of the investment and loans portfolios of each branch.
  • Directs the utilization of staff to ensure member satisfaction and service delivery standards are attained.
  • Conducts effective team-building and staff meetings ensuring that the tenets of teamwork are maintained.
  • Continually reviews current practices always looking for improving and bringing efficiencies to the organization.
  • Ensures adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensures security procedures of the branches are adhered to.

C. Business Development:

  • Develops an annual Business Plan outlining activities to be followed by branch staff (all positions including satellite branch) that will ensure the business goals and objectives of the branches are met by year end; this is to be shared with the Operations Manager and Member Experience Manager, after the financial goals have been assigned for the year for final approval. The business plan should include the development plans outlining detail on deposits, lending & referrals to our wealth department.
  • Provides updated corrective action to annual business plan quarterly on how they will initiate action to improve growth and development of the branch deposits, lending and referrals to our wealth department.
  • Develop an effective measurement system with direct reports and provide clarity on each of their roles and responsibilities.
  • Ensures the cross sales of all credit union products and sundry services are delivered.
  • Implements marketing activities to meet the business goals and objectives of the branch.
  • Pursues new business opportunities for the branch.
  • Provides input into the annual operating budgets for the branches and is responsible for branch profitability including control of expenses.
  • Ensures that efficient services are provided to members in all branch delivery channels by maximizing the utilization of staff.

D. Retail Lending:

  • Develops and maintains strong business relationships with members.  Holds an assigned branch portfolio, identifies and pursues opportunities through existing portfolio or referrals. Develops business through actively promoting and selling consumer loan products including loans, lines of credit, mortgage, overdrafts and related insurance products
  • Completes loan applications and related documentation for new loans and renewals and other loans processes.  Conducts interviews with members to identify personal lending needs; collect and analyses financial information and security, assesses credit and approves lines of credit, mortgages and overdrafts within discretionary limits and/or makes recommendations for approvals/declines to managers.
  • Ensures the profitability of loan through application of loan rates, service charges and overdue interest.
  • Performs loans administration such as maintaining loan files, processing and disbursing loans, preparing and delivering correspondence pertaining to loans. release of security on paid out loans.
  • Provides individualized financial counseling (such as debt consolidations).
  • Supports the achievement of branch sales targets and marketing plans.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of credit union lending and deposit services and products and relevant policies and legislation by regularly reviewing literature and attending update meetings.
  • Reviews delinquent accounts, analyze current status and initiate action to collect on delinquent loans; escalate to head office when appropriate.

E. Compliance:

  • Ensures adherence to all operating policies, procedures, collective agreement and certification standards by monitoring and initiating action to rectify problem areas.

F. Other:

  • Approve credit as required within the limits designated by policy.
  • Attends annual general meeting of the credit union.
  • Participation in CUIC working towards Management designation
  • Provides assistance & input to the COO, CMO and Member Experience Manager for growth
  • Other duties as assigned by the COO & Member Experience Manager.


A. Knowledge:

  • College or University degree or Financial Planning designation 
  • Minimum of 5-10 years financial services industry experience in a leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of policies and legalities regarding lending and deposit services and taxation
  • Experienced in credit underwriting, mathematical calculations on ratios and amortization schedules and credit union policies and procedures relating to banking requirements 
  • Previous management / supervisory experience in the financial services industry is an asset
  • In-depth knowledge of investments including registered plans
