The Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation guarantees member deposits in Alberta credit unions and ensures sound business practices are maintained.

This position reports to the Assistant Vice President, Regulation and Credit Risk Assessment and is accountable for the oversight of credit risk through off-site monitoring and on-site review of the credit risk management function and processes at assigned credit unions. Key responsibilities of the position include:

a) Credit risk identification and mitigation, applying an appropriate amount of judgement to individual circumstance.

b) Identification and maintenance of accurate and relevant information to support decisions.

c) Communication with various levels of management within the credit union system, including the Board of Directors, to address risk findings, promoting the safety and soundness of the credit unions and the Alberta credit union system.

THE POSITION

·  Adjudicate credit applications and complete loan reviews for assigned credit unions to ensure acceptable risks are underwritten.

·  Confirm credit risk management trends and appropriate credit risk practices are in place at credit unions by off-site credit risk monitoring and on-site compliance verifications.

·  Prepare accurate and meaningful internal documentation and external credit risk assessments.

·  Support the risk based monitoring program that serves in the protection of deposits and recognition of emerging risks.

·  Pro-active approach to management of credit union risk.

·  Develops recommendations for changes to guidelines, procedures and best practices.

·  Consults proactively on emerging issues with assigned credit unions.

·  Works independently and as part of a team assists with the department workflow and on assigned projects.

THE PERSON

·  A seasoned lender with 10+ years lending & credit adjudication experience. Fundamental knowledge is required for consumer lending with advanced skills in small business, commercial and agricultural lending.

·  Understanding of credit risk management principles, including portfolio risk, lending to higher risk industries and inherent risks embedded in lending products.

·  Comprehensive knowledge of loan underwriting standards and lending guidelines to support assessment of prudent loan underwriting policies and practices at assigned credit unions.

·  Experience in the interpretation and administration of policy and familiarity with legislation.

·  Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent oral and written communication abilities.

·  Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

·  Displays strong problem solving and decision-making skills.

·  Analytical thinker, applying an appropriate amount of judgement to a situation.

·  Ability to work, interact and lead in both a small and larger team environment team.
