Credit Adjudicator, Lakeland Credit Union

Reporting to the VP, Credit, the Credit Adjudicator will provide innovative credit solutions, evaluate and approve consumer, small business, commercial and agricultural credit applications that exceed the lenders limits. This position is responsible for ensuring that the approved applications meet acceptable risk requirements and provide a reasonable, risk-based return on investment, in accordance with corporate lending policy as well as regulatory and legislative requirements. 

  • Monitor underwriting and credit risk management trends and confirm appropriate credit risk practices are in place
  • Pro-active approach to management of credit union risk with emphasis on credit portfolio quality
  • Ensure the required internal control standards, including adherence to audit, regulatory and compliance policies and legislation
  • Analysis of financial information, security valuations, terms and conditions of the credit request to ensure that approved applications are appropriately structured to minimize risk while supporting growth
  • Identify viable alternatives to applications or revisions to security, terms and conditions
  • Assist in developing and implementing credit policies and procedures while providing mentorship to our lending team


  • A seasoned lender with 7+ years of experience in commercial credit underwriting and credit adjudication, and/or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • University degree in a related discipline e.g. business/finance/accounting, risk management certification, etc. is preferred
  • Strong understanding of credit risk management principles, including portfolio risk, lending to high risk industries and inherent credit risks is required
  • Understanding of and experience with the credit union system is considered an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge of loan underwriting standards, lending guideline and loan security documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and apply an analytical approach to problem solving and decision making
  • Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to communication both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of people
