Job Description

We are seeking an innovative, energetic and business-savvy Consultant to join Central 1’s People Solutions Consulting business unit. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional with independent consulting experience in executive talent management to work closely with Credit Union business leaders across Canada while playing a critical role on the People Solutions team.

ABOUT THE ROLE
You will work within the framework of People Solutions’ mandate by providing external strategic human resources consulting services to member and non-member credit unions and to other provincial centrals and credit union affiliates. 

You will be based in one of the following locations: from either of Central 1’s offices in Mississauga ON or Vancouver BC, or from your home office in SK. A moderate level of travel within Canada to client sites is expected. You will have a key role in contributing to the People Solutions revenue and business plan by delivering external strategic consulting services, identifying and following leads and opportunities for new business and actively promoting People Solutions services and Central 1 overall. 

You bring broad expertise in strategic human resources, particularly in the areas of talent management, CEO and executive recruitment, and organizational design, and your primary focus is on delivering related projects. In addition, you have a strong grounding in Board Governance and practices, as it relates to Board responsibilities for Human Resources Governance and CEO performance, compensation, and succession. You will monitor and identify HR needs within credit unions, recommend and develop strategies and programs to meet those needs, as well as deliver core research and services.

You are accountable for product and service development, improvement, and delivery of the talent suite of products positioning this business line and our clients for growth. On a project basis, you will provide guidance and direction to the team’s administrative and analytical staff, external contract consultants and strategic partners. In your previous roles you have lead strategic human resource projects of varying sizes, and managed direct reporting or project teams. You have run projects that involve scoping client needs, developing comprehensive proposals, establishing timelines and budgets, delivering complex human resources solutions, managing multiple stakeholders with competing interests, and writing detailed post-project reports that analyze findings, discuss options and present recommendations. 


Qualifications

ABOUT YOU
You have a minimum of 8 years of progressive human resources leadership experience, which will include a combination of external human resources consulting, leading the human resources function of an organization, and consulting at a strategic level with Executives, CEOs and Boards. You have additional talent management and organizational design expertise and experience designing and implementing human resources programs. You have an undergraduate degree in business with post-secondary education in HR management or business, preferably at the master’s level. A CPHR designation is expected. Experience delivering projects to executive or board sponsors is desirable; experience working with credit unions or cooperatives is an asset.

Ability to develop and implement strategic HR programs related to executive level performance management/measurement, organizational development, recruitment and succession management
Ability to influence decision makers and build cooperation and consensus among senior leaders and with your own team
Ability to build rapport and trust among clients and credit union contacts including HR professionals, credit union executives, and Board members
Ability to develop HR products and programs and manage implementation activities
Exceptional project management and interpersonal skills
Exceptional client relationship management, facilitation, and presentation skills
Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in both written and oral communications
Strong data analysis skills and aptitude for using technology to build business solutions and enhance personal efficiency
Superior organization skills and attention to detail; ability to manage competing priorities, project deadlines, and clients
Collaborative team player with strong customer service orientation
A consultative selling approach to clients’ needs
Solid understanding of business acumen
Solid understanding of board governance 
Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive issues in a confidential manner
Alignment to the values of the cooperative movement and credit union system; understanding of credit union system an asset
