Chief Financial Officer (2018-02)

Requirements, Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

· Assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and the Credit Union’s long term strategy.  Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information.

· Supervise and provide regular coaching to Finance, Compliance and Information Technologies staff and ensure the efficiency of the these departments; establish work standards, conduct performance reviews, and provide ongoing training and development of staff.

· Ensure compliance with appropriate international financial reporting standards (IFRS) and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) and regulatory requirements.

· Lead the preparation of financial statements and reports identifying areas of financial opportunity and concern regarding the credit union.

· Champion the internal audit of financial controls and procedures to minimize risk exposure.  Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements such as: Proceeds of Crime; Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing; Privacy Act; DICO and FSCO.

· Direct the preparation of budgets and the financial forecasts for the credit union.

· Engage the Board Audit committee around issues, trends and changes in the operating models and operational delivery.   

· Oversee all treasury activities including banking, investments, derivative management and liquidity management. 

· In the area of Risk Management:  Monitor current market and industry trends, regulations and statutes and applicable internal policies and maintain relationships within the community and industry trade groups. 

· Facilitate the development of the Credit Union’s Information Technology strategy. communicate


· Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Equivalent

· Accounting Designation (CPA)

· 4-5 years of senior management experience

· Experience in a financial services environment is an asset
