Sales and Service Manager

Position Overview:

The Sales and Service Manager provides oversight, coaching, supervision to branch management of the Castlegar, Greenwood and Slocan Valley locations and directly to the retail lending staff in the Castlegar and Slocan Valley branches. This position serves as a multi-branch manager with an emphasis on regular and ongoing sales and performance leadership and direction to facilitate the provision of quality member relationship services, to maximize revenue generation, promote growth and help members achieve and maintain their financial health. The incumbent will identify, develop and further the StellerVista brand within the branch communities, and initiate and maximize business development opportunities.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a degree or diploma in business administration or operations management
  • Completion of, or enrolment in and actively progressing towards the ACUIC Designation
  • 8 to 10 years of financial services or credit union experience including at least five years sales management with at least 1 year at the branch manager level OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Other Position Requirements:

  • Proven ability to successfully lead individuals and teams within a sales and service environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including mentoring, motivating, and coaching
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a wide variety of people
  • Proven skills in business development and achievement of sales goals and targets
  • Experience leading in a unionized environment
  • Working knowledge of credit union legislation, policies, and procedures as they relate to the position
  • Working knowledge of risk management, security, and safety as they related to branch operations
  • Working knowledge of credit union deposit products and services
  • Commercial banking experience preferred
  • PC literacy including Microsoft Word or other work processing software, Excel or other spreadsheet application and banking software programs

Reporting to the CEO, and as a member of the senior management team, this position will provide leadership and direction for the accounting and financial requirements of HCU and its subsidiaries.  Key areas of focus will include financial planning, regulatory reporting, accounting, investing, budgeting, and management of financial systems and controls.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participates in the development of annual business plans and goals aligned to the strategic plan, and ensures successful achievement of all objectives.
  • Monitors industry trends and maintains current knowledge of credit union financial systems, and legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Manages the full financial year accounting cycle for the credit union.
  • Acts as the primary contact for the external audit process.
  • Monitors and analyses operating results versus the budget; provides interpretation and investigates, corrects and/or recommends corrective action to management concerning budget variances.
  • Provides all required financial reporting – documenting and presenting current and projected financial performance for management, board members, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Responsible for all financial tools, processes, procedures and ensuring appropriate financial controls are in place; makes recommendations to the CEO where changes in policy are required to address gaps or strengthen existing practices.
  • Manages the credit union investment portfolio.
  • Manages the accounting administration team.

Qualification and Skill Requirements

The successful candidate will possess post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field, and CPA designation completed or in progress.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Our successful candidate will also demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles, and an understanding of credit union regulatory requirements,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with staff, members, and suppliers in an effective and diplomatic manner,
  • Strong understanding of computer technology, including advanced spreadsheet skills and experience with automated financial and accounting reporting systems,
  • Ability to analyze and interpret simple and complex financial data; detail orientated, and demonstration of a high level of accuracy,

Reporting to the CEO, and as a member of the senior management team, this position is responsible to  provide strategic leadership and advice on all credit (commercial and retail) related matters throughout the organization. Overseeing the organization’s credit activities, this position is responsible for leading, coaching, and directing the team of professionals within the lending department to ensure we are providing our members with quality service and advice to achieve organizational goals and targets.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participating in the development of corporate strategies by identifying short and long-term objectives and contributing to the design and development of policies and programs;
  • Initiating action to improve growth and development of the credit union’s loan portfolio by pursuing new business and establishing and maintaining liaison with business and community contacts;
  • Effectively mentor, coach and develop staff to ensure sales and business development objectives are achieved and members receive consistent level of quality, personalized service;
  • Managing the lending staff of the credit union to ensure compliance with established business practices, legislation, regulations, by-laws, policies, and procedures;
  • Developing and recommending changes to policies and procedures for effective and efficient lending services;
  • Identifying risk issues and ensuring processes are in place to effectively identify and manage risk and delinquent accounts;
  • Resolving complex lending issues and member complaints referred by staff to ensure needs of members and the credit union are met;
  • Aiding in the development and administration of processes for product and service referrals to varying credit union departments and subsidiaries;
  • Completion of regulatory reporting requirements on an on-going basis;
  • Active contributor to the applicable committees as required;
  • Act as a liaison with auditors on lending files and loans administration activities.

 

Qualification and Skill Requirements

The preferred candidate will possess a minimum of five to seven years related financial institution experience and post-secondary education in Commerce, Business or Finance.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Our preferred candidate will also demonstrate:

  • An understanding of credit adjudication principles, policies and procedures and a proven track record of responsible adjudication;
  • Demonstrated experience including at least five years of personal and commercial lending experience, some at the supervisory level;
  • An understanding of credit union regulatory requirements;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage, coach, motivate and develop employees to ensure high productivity;
  • Good organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines providing service-oriented solutions to both internal and external customers;
