The Opportunity
The Board of Directors of Souris Credit Union is seeking a community-minded, financially astute Chief Executive Officer to lead the Credit Union through its next chapter. This is an in-person position that involves occasional travel across the Atlantic region.
Key Responsibilities
To be successful in this role, the CEO will bring the communication skills, Board credibility, coaching mindset, community presence, and relationship-focused leadership needed to deliver across the following key responsibility areas:
- Financial leadership, including forecasting, performance management, profitability, liquidity, risk awareness, and the ability to translate financial information for the Board.
- Board governance and partnership, including the ability to build trust, support clear decision-making, and provide timely, relevant information.
- People leadership, including coaching, delegation, staff development, retention, culture-building, and the ability to keep a small team united through transition.
- Credit union, lending, regulatory, compliance, and risk acumen, with enough practical understanding in retail and commercial lending to provide sound oversight and ask the right.
- Change leadership and technology readiness, including the ability to improve processes safely, support adoption, and guide people beyond “what we know how to do.”
- Sound judgment and stakeholder confidence, including the ability to communicate clearly, make balanced decisions, and earn trust with staff, members, the Board, regulators, and community partners.
- Visible community presence, including commitment to local decision-making, member service, cooperative values, and understanding the industries and relationships that shape the community.
Your Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring a post-secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration, Finance or a related field, along with at least 10 years of progressive leadership experience within a credit union, cooperative or other financial institution. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
Other important assets include experience working with a Board of Directors, leading financial planning and managing financial performance, overseeing lending or credit risk (including a deep understanding of the fishing and farming industries), managing regulatory and compliance responsibilities, developing staff, and guiding change in a small or community-based organization.
