As the Senior Credit Adjudicator you will be….

Lending Services Officer

THE POSITION:

 

Due to a recent opening in our lending department, North Valley Credit Union is seeking the services of a qualified Loans Officer. The successful candidate will report directly to the Loans Manager.  Responsibilities will include duties typically associated with the lending function such as interviewing members, monitoring portfolio performance and focusing on growth opportunities. While we seek an individual with prior experience in the lending area, we are prepared to train the skills necessary to fulfill the position responsibilities. This position will provide the opportunity for the successful applicant to gain exposure to various types of lending.   This position is available immediately and the job posting will remain open until filled.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Minimum grade 12 diploma supplemented by direct lending training and experience
  • Consideration given to those individuals with loan security clerk abilities and seeking to advance their career
  • A record of completing both formal and informal training and self-development courses
  • Strong business development and relationship management skills
  • Proven ability in portfolio management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must
  • Willingness to engage in all types of lending
  • A working knowledge of syndicated loans and lease adjudication will be an asset but this can be learned over time.

 

 

COMPENSATION:

 

The level of compensation provided will depend upon qualifications and experience. North Valley Credit Union is a single branch operation located in the Town of Esterhazy. Total assets under administration are approaching $ 128 million. NVCU has the highest risk-weighted capital ratio of any credit union in the province combined with some of the lowest delinquency ratios. The staff complement is 11 FTE.

 

THE COMMUNITY:

 

Esterhazy is located north of the Qu’Appelle valley, 73 km from the Manitoba border and 90 km southeast of Yorkton. It has a population of approximately 2,800 and is a full service community. Located within our community is a hospital, medical clinic, dentist, part-time Optometrist, an RCMP detachment and K-12 schools plus a daycare centre. As Senior Manager Commercial Adjudication you are responsible for the operational control of the credit union’s commercial lending portfolio, commercial adjudication and retail & commercial administration in a manner that supports operational efficiency and ensures compliance with regulatory and organizational practices, policies & procedures, and risk framework.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Being accountable for the planning, development, and implementation of policies, programs and strategies in support of commercial lending functions and credit support lending administration
  • Providing operational oversight of compliance with enterprise risk management (ERM) policies and practices and maintenance of lending operations, risk, and administrative practices, policies, and procedures
  • Providing managerial and administrative control of the commercial lending portfolio, adjudication and retail and commercial credit support administration
  • Being accountable for providing managerial direction and leadership to the centralized management team to achieve established organizational performance goals
  • Being accountable for operational oversight of commercial annual reviews and renewals of credit facilities in the commercial credit portfolio
  • Providing managerial oversight of the commercial credit collection function and having accountability for identifying areas of potential risk and initiating actions to mitigate potential losses within established controls
  • Commonly acting as a project lead, as well as supporting the execution of a variety of cross-functional strategic projects

The ideal incumbent will possess:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or designation requiring 3 to 4 years’ full-time study or equivalent
  • A minimum of 10 years’ progressive leadership experience in the financial services industry with a focus on commercial credit execution, oversight, adjudication, underwriting and credit design
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial credit underwriting policies and procedures
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in managing commercial credit including underwriting, portfolio quality oversight and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Strong knowledge in credit risk management policies and procedures and regulatory requirements relative to credit union credit risk management
  • Strong knowledge of credit management information reporting infrastructure to further enable overall credit portfolio management
  • Strong experience in policy and procedure administration, internal controls and auditing systems
  • Strong understanding of consumer and commercial deposit and lending practices, collection techniques and legislative regulations and statutes as they pertain to consumer and business deposit and lending activities
  • Strong knowledge of information technology best practices and the ability to keep abreast of new technologies
  • Knowledge of and commitment to maintaining current knowledge of legislative requirements, best practices, local community and financial industry trends and forecasts as they related to the functional areas of the position

Primary Purpose:

Commercial Training Officer

At ABCU Credit Union Ltd. Senior Loans Officer

Our Loans Officers are available to our members through in-person meetings, phone calls, and other forms of electronic communication. The ability to provide expert advice when it’s truly needed is crucial to meeting our members needs. We know our members, and to see their successes is extremely rewarding. The Senior Loans Officer is responsible for oversight of their own lending portfolio, which will include agriculture, and commercial files. Each portfolio has a different level of complexity and presents the opportunity for new learnings each and every day! The role of Loans Officer can be challenging, yet rewarding, and the reward far outweighs the challenge!

You have a desire to learn and have an in-depth understanding of lending practices and procedures. The ideal candidate will have many years of service in the credit union system, and a minimum of six to ten years as a lender. You have an appetite for risk, and know when to take the risk, and when to shy away from it. You will be responsible to mitigate risk of default. When required you will initiate action to collect on delinquent loans, as necessary.

Building relationships is important. In fact, it is essential to our business. The other key part of the Loans Officer role is to foster new relationships and grow new business. You will regularly visit and maintain contact with your current and potential members. You enjoy the rush of that first contact, and have no problem popping into a business for the first time to meet the owner and take those first steps in fostering a relationship. When the time is right, you’ll ask for the business!
