The Job:

As the CRO, you will be responsible for the efforts that give peace-of-mind. You’re capable of inspiring and executing on thoughtful governance, strategy, and objective setting. You will have regular interactions with the Board and with regulators.

 

Some key responsibilities:

  • Sustain Synergy’s enterprise risk management program, ensuring an appropriate risk appetite, monitoring the overall enterprise risk profile, and establishing a risk philosophy and a risk-aware culture.
  • Assessing significant change, reviews risk and performance, then pursues improvement.
  • Leading our compliance program to ensure the organization is not only has a high degree of compliance but the highest standard of ethical behaviour.
  • Positively influences system partners, legislators and regulators, and the Board – ensuring they understand Credit Union issues, concerns, and operating environment.
  • Works with the Executive Team to maintain high visibility within Synergy and beyond.
  • Providing vision and oversight of the internal audit function.
  • Playing an integral part in formulating and influencing Synergy’s strategic priorities and tactical plans.
  •  Nourishing a culture that aligns with our values within the team that directly reports to this position and in the broader teams the role has contact with. The privacy, compliance, and internal audit team report to this position.

 

Qualifications:

You will possess a related degree and extensive senior leadership experience. Preference may be given to a risk designation (i.e. CRM). The position requires comprehensive knowledge of financial institutions, including lending and risk assessment. You will bring extensive knowledge and experience related to risk mitigation strategies, AML, privacy, business continuity, etc. Strong business insight is necessary to navigate the strategic and operational requirements of the role.

 

Preferably, your related certification, such as CRMP, and experience will give you a head-start in the role.

 

In addition, the following skills are critical:

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, experience presenting to a wide broad range of audiences
  • Effective, clear, and concise written communication skills
  • A growth mindset, and the ability to build and improve
  • Exceptional relationship building skills, and the ability to hold others accountable without direct authority
  • Ability to build strong, balanced, and positive relationships

 

The Location:

Synergy operates on the lands referred to as Treaty 6 Territory, which encompasses the unceded lands of Indigenous Nations and Peoples, including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Saulteaux, Nakota, Dene and Metis.

Our Executive Team is located in Lloydminster. This role is eligible for hybrid work. Ideally, the incumbent would be based in Lloydminster or one of the communities we serve (such as Kindersley, Saskatoon, etc.).

As the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer (“CRCO”), you will partner with the executive leaders to ensure the day to day execution of our business strategy. You will guide and influence the entire organization alongside your colleagues within Conexus. You will be responsible for defining the risk culture throughout the organization and ensure that our risk appetite and business strategy are aligned and designed to leverage business opportunities and create member value.

Not only will you lead a varied group of integral teams but given that this role is a key control position, you will also provide valuable and expert guidance, insight and knowledge to our Board of Directors.

  • Responsible for the ongoing risk management required in an ever-changing industry. This requires a high degree of talent to assess internal and external factors that impact the Credit Union. This also requires the ability to proactively respond to these factors in a flexible and forward-thinking way, while always adhering to evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Understand the regulatory environment and lead the subject matter experts that will form recommendations to the executive leadership team and/or Board of Directors
  • Ensuring the Board is fully informed on important factors related to risk that effect the organization
  • Developing programs that meet the needs of the members, drive growth and are aligned to the risk appetite of the Credit Union
  • Developing a culture of member first within the reporting business lines and Conexus Credit Union

Treasury Analyst

Location: Canadian home office or Regina corporate office

SaskCentral provides a balance of energy and support to employees and is on a multi-year enterprise-wide transformational journey with continued focus on ensuring the success and financial viability of Saskatchewan credit unions. The role of the Treasury Analyst in this journey is to provide subject-matter expertise on several strategic projects to deliver exceptional liquidity management services to credit unions.

The Job:
Working in a project team setting, the Treasury Analyst will support the scoping, planning, testing, and implementation of workflow requirements related to products and services provided to credit unions. You will collaborate with Front, Middle and Back Office workgroups to complete required testing associated with international wire payments and to identify, stage, and report on a variety of capital markets transactions. As someone with a thorough understanding of capital markets transactions, asset types, and settlement procedures you will apply this knowledge to ensure all operational workflows follow industry best practices and contribute to the success of the projects.

The Candidate:

You will have a degree in business/commerce and/or solid experience with these functions and have or are working towards the completion of a professional financial designation (i.e. CFA, CA/CPA, CIM). You have a minimum of 5 years’ experience within banking and/or financial reporting and analysis, policies and practices and advanced knowledge of balance sheet, capital, liquidity and risk management concepts and practices. To be successful in the role, you will have experience in the structure and settlement of secured lending and/or loan products and strong knowledge of banking systems and related deposit products. Previous Credit Union experience is an asset.
