Who are we?

Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation (the Corporation) is the deposit guarantor for Saskatchewan credit unions and the primary regulator for Saskatchewan credit unions and SaskCentral. How you will spend your time:

Reporting to the Vice-President, Regulatory Oversight, this position oversees the department responsible for the development and implementation of regulatory policy, preventive initiatives, and oversight of the deposit guarantee fund.

You will:

  • Oversee regulatory policy to ensure an effective and responsible framework for the regulation of Saskatchewan credit unions and SaskCentral, together Provincially Regulated Financial Institutions (PRFIs), is applied
  • Develop and recommend board policies, strategic initiatives, and planning, budgeting and allocating resources for departmental activities to achieve business plans
  • Guide the development, recommendation and implementation of policies for the deposit guarantee fund, including fund target and assessment policies
  • Collaborate with all other senior management positions to ensure that corporate efforts are aligned and plans are achievable. 

What you’ll need:

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or business supplemented with a graduate degree or designation in accounting/finance
  • Five years progressive leadership experience
  • Advanced knowledge of the financial services industry including international best practices in financial services regulation
  • Understanding of the methods and mechanics of government would be beneficial

Manager, Examinations (IT security focus)

The Deposit Guarantee Corporation of Manitoba (DGCM) guarantees 100% of deposits held at Manitoba credit unions and the caisse (cu/caisse). As the regulator for Manitoba cu/caisse, DGCM ensures every cu/caisse operates under sound business practices.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team of professionals.

Reporting to the Director, Examinations, the Manager, Examinations assesses that each cu/caisse operates under sound business practices; identifies areas of risk; and promotes recommendations for improvement.

This position is responsible for leading/participating as a team member in examinations; preparing examination reports; and presenting the results to cu/caisse Boards and management. Experience and keen interest in Information Technology (IT) security and its application in a cu/caisse environment is required to complement a multi-disciplinary Examinations team.

Selection Criteria:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Experience with IT governance, IT security, and outsourcing
  • Strong knowledge of sound corporate governance, risk management practices, and financial principles
  • Familiarity with enterprise risk management, internal audit, and compliance
  • Self-motivated with excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Post-secondary degree in a related area(s)
  • 5 years minimum related experience
  • Fluency in French would be considered an asset, but is not required

The Opportunity

CVCU is looking for an experienced Finance Manager / Controller to manage the finance and accounting functions of the credit union.  This is a 12-month employment opportunity working either remotely or in our office in Golden, BC.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Finance Manager is a member of the credit union management team, contributing to our success in achieving organizational goals.  This role is responsible for the financial planning, accounting, financial analysis and financial reporting for the credit union, and manages financial systems, process and controls.  Ultimately this position provides value by mitigating risk and ensuring the integrity of the credit union’s financials.

Some of the specific accountabilities of this role include:

  • Participates in the development of annual business plans and goals aligned to the strategic plan, and ensures successful achievement of all objectives.
  • Monitors industry trends and maintains current knowledge of credit union financial systems, and legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Leads the annual budget process.
  • Manages the full financial year accounting cycle for the credit union.
  • Manages accounts payables, receivables and pre-paids.
  • Monitors and analyses operating results versus the budget; provides interpretation and investigates, corrects and/or recommends corrective action to management concerning budget variances.
  • Provides oversight of payroll.
  • Provides all required financial reporting – documenting and presenting current and projected financial performance for management, board members, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Responsible for all financial tools, processes, procedures and ensuring appropriate financial controls are in place; makes recommendations to the CEO where changes in policy are required to address gaps or strengthen existing practices.

Qualification and Skill Requirements:

We’re looking for someone with a post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field, and CPA designation completed or in progress.  Previous experience in progressively senior accounting positions within the financial services industry is required, ideally within a credit union.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

To be our ideal candidate, you will also have:

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles, and an understanding of credit union regulatory requirements,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with staff, members and suppliers in an effective and diplomatic manner,
  • Strong understanding of computer technology, including advanced spreadsheet skills and experience with automated financial and accounting reporting systems,
  • Ability to analyze and interpret simple and complex financial data; detail orientated, and demonstration of a high level of accuracy,
  • Good organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines,
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills,
  • Sound understanding of credit union operations.

What’s the role?

What are we looking for?

  • Completion of a Business Degree or Diploma with a specialization in Finance or Accounting.

  • Minimum two years experience working in public practice would be considered an asset.

Assistant Controller

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Accounting and Centralized Services, you will have at least five years’ experience in administration, ideally in a Credit Union or Banking environment.

This is a multi-faceted role that spans several departments within our Credit Union.

Commercial and Retail Loan Administration involves member-facing activities, all of which are dealt with in a confidential, courteous and professional manner. Commercial and Retail Loan Administration involves back office support activities such as recording and processing loan applications, completing departmental reports, conducting credit checks and lien searches as well as registering and releasing security. Further duties include maintaining loan files, preparing and typing routine correspondence, monitoring for required loan account reviews while adhering to all internal policies and procedures.

Accounting and Clearing related activities include conducting daily member account clearing activities and assisting with various accounting related duties which require assistance with setting up new accounting software under the guidance of management/external consultants.
