We are seeking two (2) experienced, full-time Lending Service Representative to be based out of our Radville and Avonlea Branches.  Reporting to the Business Development Manager, responsibilities include interviewing members and potential members, analyzing loan applications, granting and/or recommending consumer, agricultural and commercial loans and mortgages and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures. The position is also responsible for cross-selling the full range of Credit Union products.

Preferred/Ideal Qualifications:

  • 2-4+ years of experience in consumer, agricultural, and/or commercial lending.
  • One year of related post-secondary education. (a combination of education and experience will be considered)
  • Ability to interpret complex member financial information, assess risk and determine product/service opportunities.
  • Proven success working in a client (member) service and goal-oriented environment.
  • Highly motivated with excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

Credit Union of Manitoba (CUCM) is the trade association and service provider for the province’s 17 autonomous credit unions. CUCM’s purpose is to provide strategic leadership for credit unions, and to deliver high-value solutions that help each credit union achieve its vision.

The role

As a subject matter expert, the incumbent plays a lead role in coaching, guiding, and training credit unions in all aspects of credit adjudication.  You will demonstrate loan portfolio management and risk mitigation for complex credit clients through the review of financial statements, cash flow mechanics, business plans, identifying trends, monitoring risk, and assessing for credit restructuring.

This position will provide consulting services to credit unions lending personnel and, where necessary, meet with Central’s legal counsel to discuss legal options.   Plays a central role in maintaining the operations manual, ensuring content is accurate and consistent with industry practices and Manitoba law.  You will structure, negotiate, and document complex credit submissions and negotiate all terms of credit with credit unions in a fair and respectful manner.

The person

You bring strong relationship building skills, sound analysis and decision-making competencies and have a thorough knowledge of legislation pertaining to lending and of the commercial marketplace.  You are an expert negotiator with strong interpersonal skills with ability to diplomatically manage and attempt to reconcile conflicting demands and viewpoints, combined with personable and effective client management skills.

You a natural collaborator; driven by the challenge of change, with the ability to adapt your focus or approach based on what the situation requires.

Education & Experience

Your background includes a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a similar capacity with a focus on Commercial Lending and Credit Adjudication. Knowledge of Agricultural Lending would be of benefit. Education equivalent to completion of three- or four-year bachelor’s degree, ideally in commerce or business administration or related experience is required.

  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual credit risk reporting
  • Coach and assist the Commercial Group and Retail Group in maintaining and implementing credit risk controls
  • Share expertise and knowledge with the Commercial and Retail Groups and other business units
  • Act as a reference and source of expertise to the Bank and management teams
  • Understand and implement the monitoring & control and delinquency process for commercial and retail departments

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Finance or Accounting), Commerce or related field
  • Five (5) years’ experience working in a credit-related role: Commercial lending experience is required; Retail lending experience considered an asset.
  • Experience with lending to First Nations
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a people management role
  • Understanding of commercial/small business/personal loans and lending procedures
  • Demonstrated sound judgement to make decisions

  • Oversee and monitor member services and lending activities to ensure the provision of maximum service levels and the smooth flow of work.
  • Conduct and oversee a variety of audit activities to ensure compliance with procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Partner with members at all stages of their life, providing advice on a full range of deposit, investment, and lending products and services for an assigned portfolio.
  • Undertake other related duties to support the collective success of the branch team and maximize the Member Experience.

 

What you’ll bring:

  • 5-7 years of progressive financial industry experience in investments and lending, including 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Registered as a mutual funds representative, or enrolled in an applicable course upon commencement and registered within 3 months.
  • 2 years of mutual funds sales experience.
