  • Working closely with our members on a day-to-day basis to assist them in working toward realizing their individual financial goals.
  • Building solid relationships and becoming a trusted financial partner, who proactively uncovers and identifies member needs through meaningful conversations.
  • Providing solutions and alternatives, including accounts and mid-level consumer investments and lending products and services (consumer loans, mortgages, terms, registered products, mutual funds) to meet new and existing needs of our members.
  • Helping to educate our members on the value of our products and services and striving to provide the most up-to-date and relevant financial information available.

 Our Loans Officers are available to our members through in-person meetings, phone calls, and other forms of electronic communication.  The ability to provide expert advice when it’s truly needed is crucial to meeting our member’s needs.  We know our members, and to see their successes is extremely rewarding.  The Senior Loans Officer is responsible for oversight of their own lending portfolio, which will include agriculture, and commercial files.  Each portfolio has a different level of complexity and presents the opportunity for new learnings each and every day!  The role of Loans Officer can be challenging, yet rewarding, and the reward far outweighs the challenge!

You have a desire to learn and bring with you, an in-depth understanding of lending practices and procedures.  The ideal candidate will have many years of service in the credit union system, and a minimum of six to ten years as a lender.  You have an appetite for risk, and know when to take the risk, and when to shy away from it.  You will be responsible to mitigate risk of default.  When required you will initiate action to collect on delinquent loans, as necessary.

Building relationships is important. In fact, it is essential to our business.  The other key part of the Loans Officer role is to foster new relationships and grow new business.  You will regularly visit and maintain contact with your current and potential members.  You enjoy the rush of that first contact, and have no problem popping into a business for the first time to meet the owner and take those first steps in fostering a relationship.  When the time is right, you’ll ask for the business!

Lending Service Representative

We are seeking two (2) experienced, full-time Lending Service Representative to be based out of our Radville and Avonlea Branches.  Reporting to the Business Development Manager, responsibilities include interviewing members and potential members, analyzing loan applications, granting and/or recommending consumer, agricultural and commercial loans and mortgages and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures. The position is also responsible for cross-selling the full range of Credit Union products.

Preferred/Ideal Qualifications:

  • 2-4+ years of experience in consumer, agricultural, and/or commercial lending.
  • One year of related post-secondary education. (a combination of education and experience will be considered)
  • Ability to interpret complex member financial information, assess risk and determine product/service opportunities.

Credit Union of Manitoba (CUCM) is the trade association and service provider for the province’s 17 autonomous credit unions. CUCM’s purpose is to provide strategic leadership for credit unions, and to deliver high-value solutions that help each credit union achieve its vision.

The role

As a subject matter expert, the incumbent plays a lead role in coaching, guiding, and training credit unions in all aspects of credit adjudication.  You will demonstrate loan portfolio management and risk mitigation for complex credit clients through the review of financial statements, cash flow mechanics, business plans, identifying trends, monitoring risk, and assessing for credit restructuring.

This position will provide consulting services to credit unions lending personnel and, where necessary, meet with Central’s legal counsel to discuss legal options.   Plays a central role in maintaining the operations manual, ensuring content is accurate and consistent with industry practices and Manitoba law.  You will structure, negotiate, and document complex credit submissions and negotiate all terms of credit with credit unions in a fair and respectful manner.

You bring strong relationship building skills, sound analysis and decision-making competencies and have a thorough knowledge of legislation pertaining to lending and of the commercial marketplace.  You are an expert negotiator with strong interpersonal skills with ability to diplomatically manage and attempt to reconcile conflicting demands and viewpoints, combined with personable and effective client management skills.

Education & Experience

Your background includes a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a similar capacity with a focus on Commercial Lending and Credit Adjudication. Knowledge of Agricultural Lending would be of benefit. Education equivalent to completion of three- or four-year bachelor’s degree, ideally in commerce or business administration or related experience is required.

As a Manager, Credit Risk, you will be overseeing the Bank’s credit granting process by primarily adjudicating, reporting and tracking procedures for commercial, personal and mortgage lending nationwide. This is a permanent full-time position. We are open to hybrid or in-office at one of our main office locations in Saskatoon or Vancouver. These locations are on First Nations land.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Support the commercial and personal lending process through adjudication of credit applications
  • Contribute to bank customer service standards through timely turnaround of deals
  • Work with the VP to develop solutions, such as new products to address business and personal banking needs
  • Enhance and maintain the Bank’s Credit Risk Management policies and procedures and lending platforms
  • Remain current with Credit Risk Management best practices and procedures

  • Comply with FNBC credit policies, procedures, guidelines, and best practices regarding all credit related matters
  • Liaise with Internal Audit to identify areas of concern with Credit and Monitoring and Control
  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual credit risk reporting
  • Coach and assist the Commercial Group and Retail Group in maintaining and implementing credit risk controls
  • Share expertise and knowledge with the Commercial and Retail Groups and other business units
  • Act as a reference and source of expertise to the Bank and management teams
  • Understand and implement the monitoring & control and delinquency process for commercial and retail departments

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Finance or Accounting), Commerce or related field
  • Five (5) years’ experience working in a credit-related role: Commercial lending experience is required; Retail lending experience considered an asset.
  • Experience with lending to First Nations
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a people management role
  • Understanding of commercial/small business/personal loans and lending procedures
  • Demonstrated sound judgement to make decisions
  • Attention to detail
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
