Vice President of Credit

The Position:

The Vice President of Credit is responsible for management of all credit functions which includes leading a modern distribution network of financial services to meet members’ expectations, via retail and commercial services, credit functions and loss prevention. This position is also responsible for sound lending, loan growth, policies and procedures in all areas of credit including consumer, commercial, agricultural and collection functions. The role

Reporting to the Vice President, Lending & Compliance, the incumbent plays a lead role managing all aspects of system credit, risk management, and loan adjudication while serving the growth and competitive needs of credit unions. A TYPICAL WEEK:

This is a leadership role within the commercial real estate financing team. CMHC experience – our team are active in the origination and servicing of CMHC insured multi residential housing loans, including the acquisition of loan portfolios for securitization. The job holder will be expected to have, or quickly develop, a full understanding of CMHC criteria pertaining to the insurance of multi residential real estate financing.

Portfolio Management – In conjunction with the Director, Commercial & Lending Services, the job holder will manage the commercial real estate loan portfolio which will include ensuring loans are an acceptable risk and within guidelines and policy, completing annual reviews, managing and delinquency and recovery activities.

Credit Adjudication – The role will require the ability to adjudicate on commercial real estate loan and construction loan applications. Credit experience is therefore considered an asset.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

As an experienced commercial real estate lender, the Manager, Commercial Real Estate Lending will have successfully completed a Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Finance or a related discipline plus have ten (10) years Commercial real estate lending/underwriting experience; or equivalent combination of training & experience. An accomplished business developer with an existing referral network, and/or with the ability and skills required to build one. Previous experience in leading a team.

COMPENSATION:

Loans Officer

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Reporting to the Lending Manager, this position supports the credit union’s business strategy by providing consumer and mortgage lending services to existing and potential members.  At times, this position may be responsible for less complex agriculture lending under the guidance of a more experienced lender.  The position administers and delivers on an assigned loans portfolio; recognizes member needs and promotes and cross-sells credit union lending and deposit services. Performs loan activities in compliance with applicable regulations, policies and procedures.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA(S)

  • Grants consumer mortgages, loans, and credit products within approved lending limits; receives and analyzes financial and personal net worth statements, calculates debt servicing capacity and evaluates collateral security; negotiates terms and conditions of loan; presents recommendations to more senior lending staff on applications beyond assigned approval authority.
  • Provides individualized credit advice (e.g. debt consolidations) and information to members on loan and deposit services and products offered through the credit union.
  • Conducts credit research, security inspections and searches as required; prepares releases of security on paid out loans.
  • Interprets loan reports and identifies further action required to address problem areas such as pending delinquency; monitors delinquent accounts, works with member to develop remedial plans to mitigate risk of default, and initiates action to collect on delinquent loans as necessary.
  • Identifies member needs and actively promotes/cross-sells lending and deposit products and services to meet member needs and to gain a greater share of wallet.

 

REQUIREMENTS

This position requires three years of job-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Credit Adjudicator

The Position:

The Credit Adjudicator is a motivated, career-minded Credit Adjudicator responsible for evaluating and approving credit applications which exceed lender’s or branch limits. Additional responsibilities will include assistance in developing and implementation of credit policies and procedures as well as assisting our training department with lender focused training. Assist with special projects, and new business development tools and programs as required. Under executive direction, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Credit, the Credit Adjudicator will evaluate and approve credit applications within designated limits. Credit applications which exceed the credit adjudicator limits will be submitted to the Senor Vice President of Credit and/or Credit Committee. The position is responsible for ensuring that the approved applications meet acceptable risk requirements and provide a reasonable, risk‐based return on investment, in accordance with prudent lending practice, corporate lending policy, as well as regulatory and legislative requirements.
